Having built my Oberhasli program by "grading up" using the experimental lines I started with, I've developed a fairly consistent "type." While grading up, it seemed like everything revolved around that glorious day when kids would finally hit American; as much as I like the result, the process showed me the value in bringing in genetics from other breeds, and that there is no shame in experimentals as long as there is a plan and a purpose. I've admired Antigone since I first saw her as a two-year-old and think Archimedes will complement my Oberhasli genetics well especially by adding dairy strength & udder texture. His striking solid black color is a definite bonus in that kids should meet Oberhasli breed standards as long as their dams do. Pictured at 2.5 months old.
We sadly lost Archie early in 2020; we are fortunate to have him in the tank and plan to continue using him on some experimental does. His first daughter freshened after he died, but she has all the improvements I was hoping for when I brought Archie in.
