English & Modern Languages

In English & Modern Languages, our aim is to engage pupils in the study of words and language while equipping them with essential literacy and reading skills. We offer pupils a varied and exciting curriculum in English, French and Spanish across both the Broad General Education and Senior Phase. 

English 

In English, we use an array of materials (including but not limited to novels, plays, poetry, film and non-fiction) to develop pupils' abilities in creative writing, critical essay writing, persuasive writing, reflective writing and more. We introduce pupils to texts that cover a broad range of relevant and engaging topics and support their reading skills. 

Modern Languages 

In Modern Languages, we use multiple tools and materials to support pupils' reading, writing, listening and talking skills in French and Spanish. BGE pupils have the opportunity to learn both languages, developing their communication in each and appreciation for the distinctive cultures that speak them. 

ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages)

Our ESOL courses provide support for pupils whose first language is not English, and allows them to develop their skills in a more focused setting.
