Math Overview
Students will develop an understanding of why math works. They will be asked to talk about and prove their understanding using various strategies. In order to achieve this goal students should be practicing multiplication & division facts.

Reading Overview
Will County School District 92 recently adopted a new reading curriculum called, Amplify CKLA. "Amplify CKLA is grounded in the Science of Writing, recognizing and leveraging reading and writing as mutually reinforcing processes."
"Amplify CKLA’s curriculum mirrors the Simple View of Reading and the Reading Rope: Two separate strands in Grades K–2 merge into a singular strand in Grades 3–5, developing the language comprehension and word recognition skills needed for reading and writing proficiency. Explicit, easy-to-use lessons systematically cover all foundational skills standards and run alongside knowledge topics. Hands-on and multimodal experiences set every student up for success.
Lessons begin to combine skills and knowledge with increasingly complex texts, close reading, and a greater emphasis on morphology. Students strengthen reading, writing, speaking, and listening in the context of a knowledge domain."
Science Overview
Much of the work and experiments will be done together in class. Units included in our Mystery Science curriculum this year include:
Web of Life (Ecosystems and the Food Web), Watery Planet (Water Cycle and Earth's Systems), Spaceship Earth (Stars and the Solar System), and Chemical Magic (Chemical Reactions and Properties of Matter.)
Social Studies Overview
Much of the text will be read together in class with Mr. Hagedorn, but should be read a second (or even third) time at home so that comprehension is complete. Class time will also be spent doing extension activities. Some topics that we will cover this year include the following: Native Americans, the age of exploration, the 13 colonies, the Revolutionary War, the Constitution, and the Civil War.

Social Emotional Learning Overview
Students will participate in daily activities to develop skills for learning, empathy, emotion management, and problem solving.
