Maximilian has always been a... Complex person. 

Sometimes we expect a complex person to have a complex background, but that's not necessarily the case. Max has a stable home and loving parents who would always take care of him, but his mother didn't have the best of pasts, and that hurt him deeply. 

In his crusade, seeking the causer of so much trouble for his mother, he lost himself. He was never a very stable person, but the rage was the only thing keeping the teenager sane. As Wesern needed good warriors during the war, Max quickly rose to the position of general of Ild, a prodigy strategist. 

His path crossed Mandy's on an undercover mission in Japan. Since he was also cursed, he decided to take advantage of the situation.
