What does an "A" in Overall Performance mean?

Schools earn an "A" (90–100) for exemplary performance when they serve most students well, encouraging high academic achievement and/or appropriate academic growth for almost all students. Most students will be prepared for eventual success in college, a career, or the military.

WHILA offers Mandarin Chinese as part of our language program, giving students a valuable advantage in today’s global society. Learning Mandarin opens doors to rich cultural experiences and enhances cognitive skills such as problem-solving and memory. As the most spoken language in the world and a key driver of global business, Mandarin proficiency prepares students for future career opportunities and meaningful international connections. 

All of our middle school students are part of our gifted and talented program, engaging in advanced-level courses that challenge and inspire. This rigorous curriculum lays a strong foundation, preparing them to excel in high school Advanced Placement (AP) courses and beyond, setting the stage for academic success and future opportunities.

Some of the campus’s highlights include:

• A library funded with the help of a $300,000 grant from the Laura Bush Foundation

• A gym that can provide 36 hours of storm shelter

• A community playground as part of the “Cool Schools” program

• A “cafetorium,” where the stage can connect the auditorium and gym if the divider is removed

• Outdoor art spaces for students to use their “creative senses”

WHILA has a long tradition of teaching excellence, not possible without our incredible educators. Despite all of the changes our campus has endured, our educators continue to return, giving our students unique continuity in their educational journey. With over half our teachers having over 10 years of experience and that largest portion having 6-10 years, our students get the benefits of experience as well as the innovation and excitement brought by newer teachers.
