Privacy Policy

WhichAI (“we”, “us”, “our”) is a free, open-source Chrome extension that helps users discover and select the most suitable AI model for different tasks. We take your privacy seriously. This Privacy Policy explains what information (if any) we collect, how we handle it, and your rights regarding that information.

1. Information We Collect

We collect only the minimum data necessary to provide the core functionality of the extension. We do not require any account, login, or personal details from you.

a. Data stored locally on your device

• Usage statistics — whichAI models you open and which tasks/categories you select most often.

• Search queries — terms you type into the model search bar (stored temporarily in memory only, cleared on popup close).

All of this data is stored locally using chrome.storage.local and never leaves your device.

b. Data we do NOT collect

• No name, email, phone number, or any personal identifiers

• No IP address, browser fingerprint, device ID, location, or advertising ID

• No browsing history outside the extension

• No keystrokes, clipboard content, or page content from websites you visit

• No analytics SDKs (Google Analytics, Mixpanel, etc.) are embedded

2. How We Use Your Information

The locally stored data is used solely for the following purposes:

• Show your Recently Used Models list

• Personalize task recommendations slightly (e.g. small score bonus for models you use frequently)

• Improve future versions of the extension (only aggregate, anonymized insights — never tied to individuals)

We do not:

• Send any usage data to any server (ours or third-party)

• Sell, rent, or share your data

• Use your data for advertising or profiling

• Build cross-site tracking profiles

3. When Data Leaves Your Device

Data only leaves your device when you explicitly take an action:

• Clicking “Open Model” → your browser opens the provider’s website directly (e.g. claude.ai, chatgpt.com)

• Clicking “Read Article” in the Recent Releases section → opens the linked news/blog post

We do not proxy, log, or track these requests.

4. Third-Party Websites

The extension links to external sites (AI providers, news articles, Wikipedia, etc.). These sites operate under their own privacy policies. We do not control or endorse their data practices.

5. Children’s Privacy

WhichAI is not directed to children under 13 (or the applicable age in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

6. Your Rights & Choices

• Clear all data: Uninstall the extension or clear Chrome storage for this extension.

• Disable personalization: Simply avoid using features that rely on local history (the extension still works fully without it).

• Access your data: All data is stored locally — you can inspect it using Chrome DevTools → Application → Storage → Local Storage or IndexedDB.

7. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy occasionally. Changes will be posted here and/or shown in the extension. Continued use after changes means you accept the updated policy.
