AVID is a program that provides teachers with effective strategies to accelerate the performance of underrepresented students so that both those students and the entirety of the student body can have the necessary tools to prosper throughout high school, college, their careers, and life. We teach our students how to become top contenders in the global market while providing them with the necessary tools to do so. Students are taught lessons on writing, inquiry, collaboration, organization, and reading along with other pertinent life skills. We also expose them to a variety of careers and colleges while preparing them to tackle both in their future. As they continue through the program, they will have ample opportunities to engage in study groups, prepare for college entrance exams, and apply to college and scholarship programs. What students say about AVID
More Student Testimonials
The AVID Elective targets students in the academic middle (B and C students) with the desire to go to college and the willingness to work hard. Typically, they will be the first in their families to attend college, and come from groups traditionally underrepresented in higher education. These are students who are capable of completing rigorous curriculum but are falling short of their potential.
AVID places these students on the college track, requiring them to enroll in their school’s toughest courses, such as Honors and Advanced Placement®. To support them in the rigorous coursework, AVID students learn organizational and study skills, develop critical thinking, learn to ask probing questions, receive academic help from peers and college tutors, and participate in enrichment and motivational activities to make their college dreams a reality.
Activities that take place in AVID include:
SAT/ACT Prep
College Tours/Field Trips
Team Building Activities
Study Groups
