Welcome to WhatToWatch. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how WhatToWatch handles your information. The short version: we collect almost nothing, and what little data exists stays on your device.
WhatToWatch does not collect, store, or transmit any of the following:
Your name, email address, or any personal identifiers
Account credentials of any kind — we do not require you to create an account
Your location or device identifiers
Your browsing history or usage patterns
Any information about the movies or TV shows you save, rate, or log
All data you create within WhatToWatch — including your Watch Now list, Watch Later list, My Library, star ratings, and preferences — is stored exclusively on your device using local storage. This data never leaves your device and is never transmitted to us or any third party. If you delete the app, this data will be permanently removed.
WhatToWatch uses the TMDB API to display movie and TV show information including titles, descriptions, cast, poster images, and streaming availability. When you use the app, your device makes requests to TMDB's servers to retrieve this content. If the app is used with an active internet connection, technical protocol data such as your ephemeral IP address is transmitted to facilitate network connectivity, but this data is not retained or used for tracking. We do not control TMDB's data practices. You can review TMDB's privacy policy at themoviedb.org.
WhatToWatch includes affiliate links to streaming services such as Netflix, Hulu, Max, and others. If you tap a streaming link, you will be redirected to that service's website or app. These third-party services have their own privacy policies and data practices, which we do not control. We may receive a referral commission if you sign up for a streaming service through one of these links.
If you purchase a WhatToWatch Pro subscription, your payment is processed entirely through Apple's App Store or Google Play. We do not receive or store your payment details. Apple and Google handle all billing and may collect information in accordance with their own privacy policies.
WhatToWatch offers an optional Pro subscription available at $1.99 per month or $14.99 per year. Subscriptions are managed through Apple App Store or Google Play. We do not collect or store any billing information. To cancel your subscription, please do so through your device's App Store or Google Play account settings.
WhatToWatch does not knowingly collect any personal information from children under the age of 13. Because we do not collect personal information from any user regardless of age, the app is safe for general use. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will take steps to address it.
Because all your data is stored locally on your device and we do not operate any servers that store personal information, the security of your data is governed by your device's own security features. We recommend keeping your device's operating system up to date and using a device passcode.
Since we do not collect personal data, there is nothing for us to provide, correct, or delete on our end. However, you have full control over your data at all times:
You can clear your Watch Now, Watch Later, and My Library lists at any time within the app
You can delete the app entirely to remove all locally stored data from your device
You can cancel your Pro subscription at any time through your App Store or Google Play account
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the effective date at the top of this document and notify users through an in-app notice. Continued use of WhatToWatch after such changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
Since WhatToWatch does not collect personal data through normal use, the risk of a data breach affecting your personal information is minimal. In the unlikely event that a breach occurs involving any data you have voluntarily provided to us — such as through direct email contact — we will notify you as required by applicable law.
If you voluntarily provide information to us and processing is based on your consent, you may withdraw that consent at any time without affecting the lawfulness of any processing carried out before withdrawal.
