Greetings! My name is Marissa Genovese of What's Your Occasion. What's Your Occasion is a local small business that offers custom giftables, t-shirts or any party décor accessory. We are so excited to offer our first annual Scholarship for a local college student. It is our intent to pick one recipient annually to assist with the costs of tuition and fees in the form of a scholarship based on t-shirt sales of a chosen design. Click the "Learn More" button to learn more about our services. Please read more about our scholarship recipient below and we invite you to purchase a t-shirt to support him! Thank you so much!
This year's recipient is Jalil Roundtree. Jalil is a scholar athlete that attended Edwardsville High School. He has been playing sports "since the day he could walk". He has played football, basketball, soccer and baseball. Throughout High School he played Varsity Football as well as Basketball and earned many accolades from it. Jalil states that "the one thing my parents have instilled in me is that academics takes precedence before you can play sports". In addition to sports, he is involved in various extracurricular activities as well as community service and volunteering. He has been a member of Jack and Jill for sixteen years and held many leadership roles including being the immediate past president. Jalil states, "at a very young age, I learned the importance of serving and being of purpose to others". Some of the community service initiatives that Jalil has participated in includes volunteering at homeless shelters, food pantries, mentoring/reading programs as well as donating many Thanksgiving baskets. Also during his sixteen years in Jack and Jill he has received the Presidential Award for two years in a row as a result of rendering over 100 community services hours yearly. Jalil has graduated high school and he is headed to Clark Atlanta University in the Fall. He states "as I embark on the next chapter of my journey, I must make moves that matter". He reports, "one of my short term goals is to attend college, maintain a high GPA and demonstrate my adulting skills as I work toward graduating college". Jalil feels that college will help him to "reach milestones, continue to break barriers and as a result, I will be in position to reach and help others". Let's celebrate and support this fine young man!
This custom shirt design was chosen because it embodies a message that is perfect for any student heading off to college. The design will be printed on a white t-shirt with black lettering.
