New to WhatsApp Web? Start Here for Easy Step-by-Step Help!
WhatsApp Web is a great way to send and receive messages from your computer. But if you don’t get notifications when someone messages you, it can be frustrating — especially when you’re busy on other tabs.
Enabling notifications allows you to:
Know instantly when someone messages you
Stay updated while working or browsing
Save time by replying quickly
Avoid checking your phone again and again
Follow these simple steps to turn on desktop notifications:
Go to https://web.whatsapp.com on your computer browser.
Scan the QR code with your mobile WhatsApp app (Menu → Linked Devices → Link a Device).
Once you're logged in, you’ll see a “Turn on desktop notifications” banner at the top.
Click the “Turn on desktop notifications” button.
Your browser will ask for permission to show notifications.
Click “Allow” when the popup appears.
Done! You’ll now get pop-up notifications when someone messages you.
If you don't see the banner, follow this method based on your browser:
Click the lock icon 🔒 in the address bar.
Find “Notifications” → set it to “Allow”.
Refresh the WhatsApp Web page.
Click the padlock icon next to the web address.
Go to “Permissions”.
Set Notifications to “Allow”.
Click the lock icon in the address bar.
Choose “Allow” next to “Notifications”.
Refresh the page.
Try the following fixes:
Make sure your browser is not muted.
Close extra browser tabs to improve performance.
Check your computer’s Do Not Disturb mode or Focus Assist (Windows).
Make sure your phone is connected to the internet – WhatsApp Web won’t work if it’s offline.
Try using a different browser like Chrome or Edge.

No. WhatsApp Web still requires your phone to be connected to the internet unless you're using the multi-device beta feature, which allows limited offline use.
You can pause or mute notifications from your browser settings or within WhatsApp Web by going to Settings → Notifications, then unchecking “Desktop Alerts” or muting specific chats.
