Hi, I noticed that on my new iphone 14 that my camera is being by whatsapp even when the app is closed and removed from the background. Is that an iPhone bug or is it indeed being used and my security is compromised ? did this happen to anybody ?

I am facing the same issue of whatsapp using my camera, even if I close the app in background and even if I turn of my camera access from the settings still it shows that whatsapp is using my camera, it is really scary but whenever that happens I just restart my device and it goes away.

I had the same issue. I uninstalled WhatsApp. Noticed the green light and then proceeded to shut my phone off. When I powered back on the light was gone and I reinstalled the app. Issue resolved. Hope this helps.

Did you delete the app or remove it from your Home screen? Go to the App Store and search for WhatsApp. Does it show a download icon, or does it say OPEN (meaning it is still on your phone). And did you restart your phone after removing it?

So I only want to back-up the Camera Roll (DCIM/Camera). But even if I just checkmark Camera Roll and uncheck WhatsApp, WhatsApp images will still manage to get into the Camera Upload. I tried to circumvent this by just Uploading Files directly to the Camera Upload folder (by navigating directly to the DCIM folder), only to be greeted by a "too many files" error. Camera Roll isn't explicitly uploading just from the DCIM Camera folder, and these WhatsApp images are saved in a separate WhatsApp folder. I appreciate any feedback.

You'll find the screenshots attached. My device's Android version is 13, running Nothing OS 1.5.6. And my WhatsApp are saved exclusively in the default pathway within WhatsApp destination folder. I double checked my internal storage there's no WhatsApp data in the DCIM/Camera folder.

However, now there is a new issue; 6677 items have completed sync, while the internal storage DCIM/Camera has 7325 items? I can see that both very recent as well as very old items at the beginning and end of both lists have been excluded, I can only imagine there's a bunch in the middle, but not sure why syncing was skipped for these.

Apart from that, if the automatic camera uploads have finished and you're still missing some files, you can try finding them and uploading them manually via the (+) button within the Dropbox mobile app.

I could definitely add the files individually, but that's 648 missing files that I have to search for. Hoping to avoid that, and to streamline the sync process moving forward when new Camera files are propagated.

I face the problem while using WhatsApp camera for capture photos, When i capture the image camera show nothing while waiting for some time like 10 to 15 sec. then show the image, I face this problem from Day 1 when I Purchase Nothing phone 1 (14 Feb 2023)

Sorry to necro this, but it is still happening, at least for me, with battery optimization to unrestricted. Also, since the update of Nothing OS 2.5.3.A I have problems with Whatsapp notifications on lockscreen. I cannot see them until i unlock the phone. Once is unlocked is when I see the whatsapp icon on the taskbar. Also, sometimes the notifications dissapear while expading them.

It looks like you've already tried some of the steps that we usually would've gone through. Are you having a similar issue when you're using other apps like; Snapchat, Instagram, etc? Does this happen on the default Camera app?

Thank you for your reply.

It seems like the issue is purely isolated to the WhatsApp application as Instagram and Snapchat can make use of the camera and gallery without any issues.

Thank you for the advice on the soft reset, this sadly also didn't do the trick.

But I encounter problems such as pixelation and excessive darkness in Whatsapp front camera. There is no such thing in the main camera application, but when taking photos from whatsapp, the image is excessively pixelated. How can we solve it? It seems like an API problem, but I didn't know. Is there any news about this?

Hi,

I found out that using the normal camera app the button on the side works perfect. But when I use Whatsapp and want to make a photo only the button on the screen works.

Anyone also experienced this?

Just took a photo within WhatsApp (initiating it from WhatsApp). There is no way of changing settings that I can see - you simply have the option of front or back camera, and photo or video. I used the back camera - and noted that zoom using the volume button didn't seem to work.

On further investigation, WhatsApp uses the phone camera API to take photos, with no way of altering anything. Actually, it cycles between front camera, and 2 different zoom levels, but all photos are in 21:9 format

Strange as the camera itself does not take 21:9 aspect ratio photos. After two weeks of emailing Sony Support they finally say, "the camera is meant for casual use and does not support that feature (21:9 aspect ratio photos) and then for about the twentieth time they waffle on about Cinema Pro.

I am so disappointed with Sony, why have a camera that cannot take photos to fill the screen, the allegedly inferior Xperia 10 Plus can take 21:9 photos so why not Sony's best ever smartphone with it's best ever camera?? And, if the camera takes 21:9 aspect ratio photos within WhatsApp then surely it should take the same size photos without WhatsApp??!!

I think someone in Sony has messed up, and failed to include the 21:9 aspect ratio in the standard camera setup, despite this aspect ratio being available in the Camera Pro app and (we now find) in WhatsApp, that I assume must use the camera API to obtain photos from the phone camera hardware. Unfortunately Sony will never admit they have a problem with any of their phones, but I am sure they are aware of this problem and will be sorting it out.

a recurring issue on WhatsApp Beta for Windows where my camera unexpectedly turns off during video calls. The only solution is to end and restart the call. This occurs randomly and affects the usability of the application.

What is happening is that the display for the camera inside WhatsApp is inverted (or tilted sideways). When I move the phone up and down, the image goes left and right, and vice-versa. It is like that both for taking pictures to send someone, and for scanning the QR code.

So, since the QR code depends on orientation of the image, the app cannot read the inverted image. I tried inverting the PC screen itself to correct the issue, but it seems that there's no screen orientation that gives the proper reading of the code. Plus it's really annoying trying to focus the code, as the image doesn't behave as expected.

I had the very same issue with my Galaxy Y Duos. Rotating the phone or laptop screen through screen preferences didn't help me. Finally the solution was to use 'Flip This' chrome extension and rotate the QR code by 90 degrees. The WhatsApp logo at the center of the QR code would not change its orientation on the camera (as it is a different image) but the QR code would be rotated and your phone would be able to scan it.

I had to look at it very carefully, and I think I ended holding my phone sideways! It was a bit confusing, and took me quite a few goes, it eventually worked. I was connected to WhatsApp Web! (And I haven't had to scan it again. I bookmarked the webpage, and whenever I go there I can Whatsapp on my pc)

Whether you want to capture a photo for your new WhatsApp Status or connect with friends and family via video calls, WhatsApp's in-app camera serves many functions. Hence, it can be quite frustrating if the WhatsApp camera suddenly stops working on your Android. If your WhatsApp camera does not load or fails to capture any photos and videos, here are some solutions that you need to try.

If your phone is running Android 12 or higher, you'll need to ensure that camera access is enabled in the privacy settings. Otherwise, WhatsApp won't be able to use your camera despite having the necessary permission. 152ee80cbc
