[What's up Cameron?] is a podcast demystifying the cultural landmark of Cameron Highlands that so many of us have fond childhood memories of. Many of us when we recall the times, we last visited Cameron Highlands, we were either too young to remember or we were just children, safe from the reality of the world. We thought the Strawberries and butterfly farms were a dream come true, the air was a lot cooler than the cities we are used to, the foggy atmosphere made us feel like we were in a new world and wondered why your parents were so eager to sit by the dock over the green tea fields just to drink some tea. But thinking back now, likewise to everywhere else, Cameron highlands have their ugly sides behind their perfect green fields.

Through 4 main episodes, the podcast aims to discuss the aspects of Cameron Highlands that are not often considered and rather hidden behind the beautiful sceneries and attractions.

The tourist landmarks in Cameron and modern issues that has been brought up due to tourism such as traffic jams, the current ongoing construction projects in Cameron Highlands that locals are fighting against to retain Cameron Highland’s environment, the underappreciation of farmers and the industry regardless of the vast production and distribution of Cameron produce all across Malaysia and other selective countries, the local horror story of the Thai silk king, Jim Thompson, that not a lot of non-Cameroonians know about, his disappearance and the eerie dark sides of deep forests in Cameron Highlands.

Our Host, Aqilaa, faces modern problems that young adults or working adults face in the real world these days. With an urge to run away from her crazy and stress filled life, she sets off to Cameron Highlands, thinking back to the times when she was still a child and all the fun she had at beautiful Cameron Highlands, hoping to relive those nostalgic moments and take a break from the life she had, just for a few days. But upon arrival and when her friend Aleyxia, our second host, gives her a tour around Cameron Highlands, Aqilaa can’t help but notice all the changes that Cameron Highlands have gone through over the years, it just wasn’t the same anymore. Which makes Aqilaa contemplate her choices of running away to Cameron Highlands and seeking the nostalgia and simpler times that doesn’t exist anymore, leaving her feeling bittersweet.
