What is Norwex?
Why Does it Matter?
What Makes Norwex Different?
I love this image to help explain the difference between chemical vs mechanical cleaning - our Norwex Microfibre works in the same way!
In a garden you have 2 choices to deal with weeds. You can spray it and kill it (chemical weeding) or you can put in a little bit of arm power and pull the weeds from the garden bed. Both ways essentially get rid of the weeds, but only one physically removes the weeds from your garden bed- the other just leaves you with a dead mess!
Much the same with cleaning! With chemical cleaners (sprays and wipes) the chemical in the product "kills" the bacteria but the dead bacteria still remains on the surface. It's dead and not going to hurt you, but it's still physically there. And using traditional cotton cloths or wipes just push that dead bacteria around.
With mechanical cleaning and Norwex's high quality and specially created microfibre, when you wipe a surface you are physically picking up and removing 99% of bacteria from the surface. It's really and truly gone! And because of the snowflake design in the fibres of our cloths, the dirt gets trapped in the center of the cloth and doesn't allow for cross contamination! You can wipe surface after surface and it won't put back the bacteria that you picked up.
The snowflake design of the Norwex Microfiber helps pick up and remove the dirt instead of pushing it around.
Always wipe with a flat cloth, this helps the cloth do it's job the best!
Protein Swabs (Protien is smaller than bacteria!) showing the efficacy of each product with different cleaning options. Only the Norwex shows green!
Do your kitchen cloths and bath towels seem to always stink? It's a pretty common problem to have and one that can make your laundry pile up fast.
With Norwex's Baclock, you can say goodbye to stinky cloths and towels and hello to microfibre that can purify itself!
Baclock is a microsilver that is infused into the fibres of the cloth during manufacture. It's embedded into the cloth so it won't ever come out. Think of it like coffee and coffee creamer- once the creamer is poured and stired in, there's no way to seperate the two back out. Your microfibre will never "lose" it's Baclock!
The silver in Baclock works to create a hostile environment for bacteria, essentially suffocating or starving it out so that it cannot reproduce and thrive. To activate the silver, all you have to do is get the microfibre wet. For cleaning cloths, after you're done using the cloth, simply rub it together under water to release the dirt and grime and hang to dry. For bath towels, the water from drying you off is enough to activate the Baclock- just remind your kiddos (or hubby- if he's anything like mine, he counts as a dependant! 😂) to hang thier towels to allow them to dry properly. We all know a towel in a heap on the floor is not going to dry well, no matter how cool the towel is!
Enzymes are SO COOL!
I really struggled with understanding Enzymes and what they do, until we did some training on it during Team Retreat last year. Our science guru in Norwex head office flew out to teach us all about these super cool naturally derived cleaning power-houses. Here is my cliff notes:
All living things have enzymes- our bodies naturally produce enzymes.
Enzymes act as nature's recyclers, acting as a catalyst to bring about biochemical reactions (in our case breaking down stains, odours and dirt!)
Enzymes are NOT destroyed during the reaction and can be used repeatedly until there is nothing left to break down or interact with. This means that your Norwex cleaning product is working well after you think you're done cleaning!
Enzymes are safe, naturally occurring, biodegradable organisms taht don't pose a risk to humans, pets, aquatic life or the environment
Probiotics (that work closely with Enzymes) actively consume matter and create an environment that is less favourable for harmful bacteria to thrive.
More information on Enzymes in the videos below!
What a great visual to physically SEE the enzymes break down the organic material (in this case the strawberry jam!) This is what it's doing in your laundry, and on your counters and surfaces in your house! I think enzymes are so cool!
We only have one planet and we need to be stewards of the earth so that generations to come have a clean, healthy world to live in. And to be quite honest, we are doing a TERRIBLE job of looking after our planet. 😬
We have created a habit of using convienent single use products and plastic packaging that hurts our planet and the animals that live on it (including us, if were being completely honest- has anyone seen the Plastic Detox documentary?)
We are filling our oceans with garbage and plastic and we are filling our waterways with chemicals that are changing the microbiomes in both water systems. Scientists predict that by 2050 there will be more plastic per pound than fish in our oceans! What a scary realization! 😢
But the good news is that we can make a change! And if everyone makes even the smallest changes, there could be a massive impact on the health of our world!
Norwex is not only committed to creating healthy products for us as humans, but also committed to doing what they can to make our world a better place as well! Our products have the environment in mind always- being able to clean with just a cloth and water helps reduce the chemical load on our systems, our cloths are made with recycled material that was destined for the landfills and oceans and our products reduce the need for single use products in your home (think paper towels!) We try really hard to have the planet's back!
Check out some of the additional projects that Norwex is a part of below that helps the planet take a sigh of relief.
Why We Need Sustainable Products
My Favorite Ways Norwex Helps the World!
Ocean Bound Plastic :
Norwex collects and recycles plastic that is otherwise going to end up in the oceans and recycles that plastic into many of our product packaging.
Norwex has partnered with the Seabin Project to purchase 10 seabins that sit in costal areas around parts of the world and collect garbage from the oceans. To learn more check out the Seabin Project's website at https://seabin.io/how
Norwex has also partnered with Washed Ashore- art made from ocean trash to raise awareness and to help spark the desire to watch how we consume and recycle the plastic in our everyday lives. For more information about Washed Ashore and what they do check out their website at https://www.washedashore.org/
Our Microfibre has an extremely long lifespan - my Mom's original Envirocloth is well over 15 years old! But if there comes a day that you need to say goodbye to your trusty old cloth, Norwex recycles old microfibre cloths into renewable energy that helps power some of the manufacturing and distribution facilities within the company! So cool!
Did you know that two-thirds of consumers believe that chemicals in cosmetics are already reviewed by the FDA? They are not.
Did you know that chemical based sunscreens have the ability to enter the bloodstream and can remain in the bloodstream for 24 hours after use ended? And that concentrations of those chemicals compound with daily use? You think you are protecting yourself from the sun, but you are unknowingly increasing your body burden instead.
The EWG is a third party testing facility that tests both cleaning and personal care products for product transparency and safe ingredients. The products that get the EWG Verified Seal are products that are tested to be safe for you to use and are products that you can trust to keep your family healthy. Just for fun: try putting your go to skincare or favourite cleaning product into the EWG searchbank. Some products have not been tested so won't show up in your search, but most brands have at least something from their product line that has been tested by EWG. It's eye opening what some popular and much loved brands actually get scored!

To test your Cleaning products: https://www.ewg.org/cleaners/
Having the EWG verification on lots of our product line (and more are being tested as you read this!) gives me confidence that the company is standing behind their mission- creating cleaner, safer and better products and reducing the chemicals in everyday lives! They aren't just talking the talk but they are walking the walk.
