Autonomy of things is also called Internet of Things or Internet of Autonomous Things (IoAT). The phrase refers to a collective of technological devices which are designed to work on a very specific task, without human intervention, dictation and involvement. In other words, the tech is designed to carry out a very specific function completely all by itself; that is, completely autonomously. (isn’t this simply fascinating?).
This is enabled through AI Algorithms, and the use of the same to achieve autonomy has been associated with robotics for many decades and now; and today, we have moved beyond robotics and we are endeavouring to apply the same in defence, vehicles, drones, home devices (such as your air conditioner, your television, refrigerator, etc). how does that help? Take this simple example: imagine your television knows when your eyes shut while watching TV at night, and it shuts itself off when you sleep off. Imagine the amount of energy that you can save. Imagine this scenario, where you are in a hurry and you forgot to switch off the AC at home, but you do not have to worry about anything because your AC can shut it self off because it is able to detect human absence. This undoubtedly saves money, energy, and in fact increases or enhances safety, because the devices are capable of turning themselves off when they detect a threat.
This is only a very small example of the many wonders that AuT can do. One of the most remarkable feat is the integration of the tech with vehicles. Not only does it enhance the safety of your vehicle by manifolds, it is also able to ensure that road accidents are reduced saving lives and the exchequer’s money, and prevent damage of public and private property. The entire concept is associated with sensor-based tech and AI, that is integration of sensor-based tech and AI into a wide array of devices to make the devices smarter, autonomous (so to say), safer, and energy efficient. This gives the devices the faculty to analyse and even make decisions based on the analysis of changing circumstances of the environment where you find the device in. It is almost as if you make the device an appendage of human consciousness, enabling the devices to complete the specific tasks for which they are made-without human intervention, input and help.
Why is this important? Understand it in this way: Technology is affiliated in two ways: the physical and the digital-while the digital world has been evolving exponentially, the physical world has lagging a little behind (and this is going to change it). Secondly, the direct impact of physical tech> the impact of digital tech. If you are looking for Inference Engine, consider Enterra Solutions.
