The desire to remember the feeling of a place can also be a catalyst. The Beauty Way for soprano, tenor, and bass viols (2009) is inspired by my residency at the Wurlitzer Foundation in Taos, New Mexico. In Taos, 8000 feet above sea level, closer to the heavens, I observed the mercurial play of light and shadow and experienced a sense of wonder that I never wanted to forget. Time slowed down. I was off the clock; there was only morning, afternoon, and night. I was in the Timeless Zone.

RIFKIN: I think the story naturally starts with folk music, like that set the template for all of these other scenes. I knew that I wanted to go up through Williamsburg and Bushwick, the stuff that I was around for, and everything in between fell pretty naturally into place.

RIFKIN: Yeah. The physical location changed over and over and then it ended up just becoming a rental space. David Mancuso, who was running it, passed away in 2016. But this building, they should have a plaque on it or something. This is the birth of one of the biggest music cultures in the world.

RIFKIN: Yeah, they were. One of the things that I understandably had to cut from the book was a lot of really granular stuff about the layout of these places. The layout and the location can end up dictating what gets made inside.

Join us in Music City to make your next event an unforgettable experience! From incredible live music to eclectic southern cuisine, Nashville has something to offer everyone and the Music City Center is in the center of it all.

There has never been a better time to come visit Music City. Named "One of the Top Destinatons for 2016" by Forbes Travel Guide, Nashville is booming and the Music City Center is the new pulse of it all. Known for its trendy new restaurants and its eclectic music scene, Nashville has become a popular destination for many.

Known as "the Beast" locally, the Basement East is the much larger sister venue to longstanding rock venue the Basement. But with capacity for 575, it's still a place to see acts like Yo La Tengo or Lee Ann Womack up close. Surprise appearances by musicians like Alice Cooper aren't out of the question, either. Compilation tribute concerts and secret shows pop up regularly. The popular Chivanada food truck sells empanadas during shows.

The unassuming American Legion Post 82 in East Nashville transforms on Tuesday nights into a Western Swing extravaganza. If you are looking for a place to wear fringe and practice your dance moves to classic country, this is it. The aesthetic is that of a VFW Hall or American Legion Post, with practical dcor to serve veterans at hosted community events. A light-up American flag backdrop and a band and patrons dressed in their Western Swing best make up Honky Tonk Tuesdays, where dance lessons by Laura Mae typically start at 7:00 p.m., and the free show starts at 8:00.

Premier music and movement programs for children newborn to 6 years old. Parent and child classes newborn - 2 years, 3-4 year olds learn music concepts, 5-6 year olds learn to read music and play an instrument in a fun group setting.

The congregation is always the primary choir. The role of professional or volunteer choirs and musicians is to aid the whole people of God in their worship. While anthems or vocal and instrumental solos may be offered, they do not have to be. Congregational singing, however, is essential. While it is possible to be actively engaged in worship and in prayer while listening to an anthem or solo, a diet of worship which does not regularly include ample opportunity for all the members of the congregation to join in song will be impoverished worship, and the life of the church and the faith of its people will suffer.

Evaluating and choosing music for Christian worship should be a careful process, guided primarily by theological considerations. Pastors, consistories, musicians, choir directors, and worship committees may be aided in this process by being attentive to the following suggested guidelines. The commission also invites responses to these guidelines, especially from those congregations that can suggest additional or alternative criteria for selecting hymns or a hymnal.

Slavic Routes: Music from Renaissance Prague brings a fascinating cross-section of sacred vocal polyphony from this musical crossroads together and to life. Projection and in-concert commentary provided by Erika Supria Honisch, Stony Brook University.

From its very beginnings, Nashville grew from a foundation built on music. Music has been the common thread connecting the soul of the city and its people. And visitors have ventured here to experience the music that weaves a fundamental pattern in its cultural, business, and social fabric.

The Ryman was managed by Lula Naff from 1904-1955 and she booked the top musical acts of the era in the building including Marian Anderson, Caruso, Sandra Bernhardt, Louis Armstrong, John Philip Sousa, and Nat King Cole.

In December 1945 when Bill Monroe played his mandolin at the Ryman with Lester Flatt playing guitar, Chubby Wise on fiddle and Howard Watts on bass a new musical genre of bluegrass music were created on the famous stage. Banjo player Earl Scruggs later joined the group.

The Schermerhorn Symphony Center, home to the renowned, GRAMMY award-winning Nashville Symphony, anchors the downtown end of the recently designated Music Mile. The Music Mile is a symbolic stretch of roadway connecting the Symphony Center with the music district of Music Row, the vibrant new entertainment venues on Demonbreun Street, the Frist Art Museum, the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum, the Music City Walk of Fame, and the Bridgestone Arena. The Music Mile perfectly illustrates how the music of Music City is indeed a common thread throughout the business, cultural, and entertainment sectors of Nashville.
