So, How Does the Overdrive Option Work?
You might see the overdrive option on your monitor but not have any idea how much easier and smoother it can affect your gaming experience.
The overdrive option speeds up the monitor response time to catch up with the fast-moving objects and decrease the ghosting artifacts.
Usually, the response time is measured in milliseconds, the standard range being around 1 to 5 milliseconds. So, the response time is pretty fast considering if you had no idea of what it was.
But then again, we find ghosting along the game. This is due to the fact whatever monitor you might buy; you could still increase your display overdrive by a few milliseconds.
Even the fastest panel where the response rate is one millisecond, by default it actually lowers down to 3-5 milliseconds. To reach the response time of 1 millisecond, you could select the overdrive option.

The response overdrive options are easy to locate. You have to open the on-screen display menu where all the options for display adjustments are provided.
From there you have to select the overdrive settings.
Although some monitors might not have the option for overdrive settings, hence you would have to manage with the current response time or go for another monitor.
Some monitors might have different levels of overdrive settings than others. From slow, medium, fast, fastest to levels of 0 to 100.
You can try out all the options, but usually the given monitor would work just fine in medium setting.
A Few Things to Remember…
Would be that too much overdrive can send the monitor to pixel overshoot. Quite the opposite of ghosting, the pixels change faster than that is required by the game.
It can cause the screen to look like its moving before the story, or appear as glitches. So, a good thing to remember would be to not maximise the overdrive option if not necessary.
For most normal paced games, the default should make the LCD work just fine.
