Support for Projects is the key feature of Filter Forge 10. Project is a new workspace concept in Filter Forge that can contain multiple artboards (each with its pixel dimensions) representing the final images you're creating. For example, if you're working on a stylized photo set, each combination of a source image, a filter, and its settings will be represented by a separate artboard in your project file. It is tailored for users who regularly need to recreate the work previously done in Filter Forge, or to move their work files between computers.

The new Bitmap Cache component will be invaluable for filter authors who want to improve filter rendering time and control response. The component rasterizes its input to an internal bitmap without further processing. It may be useful to place in front of heavy subtree sections like loops and high-detail noises.

Handling of bitmap caches is further improved by the new Input Cache Settings dialog that brings adjustable settings to every bitmap-based filter component. The dialog allows filter authors to fine-tune cache performance, balancing between render speed and image quality.

Filter Forge renders images based on input images and XML documents called "filters". A filter (not to be confused with a mathematical filter) is essentially a tree of successive generations and/or transformations of color and position. Types of generations include single colors, polygons, gradients, Perlin noise, variations of Worley noise, and patterns commonly found in masonry. Types of transformations include rotation, scaling, refraction, noise distortion, kaleidoscope patterns, blurs, edge detection, blending, a variety of color space manipulations, and switches. Filter Forge hosts a web-based library of thousands of user-submitted filters that can be previewed and downloaded online or using the program's built-in browser.
