Minutes of public meeting to discuss exploring local community ownership. As in previous PCDT minutes, PCDT have no knowledge and little interest in airfield, but see land as suitable for alternative development.
The council have produced a formal valuation of £210,00. Their report does not cover the financial impact of the restriction on the title deeds of "airfield use only".
Co-incidently, the council had earlier had an offer in this region - with various fantastic airfield improvements, a guarantee of future use as an airfield, but subject to planning consent for an airfield manager's house and new hangar.
WHFP report on the August 2024 council meeting, says:
"A report to the council’s economy and infrastructure committee says the funds committed to the airfields are no longer sufficient to meet maintenance and legal liabilities and decisions need to be taken about their future."
"The report recommends exploring either the sale or the long-term lease of the site, “as both represent potential income-generation options for the council”.

Extract from the minutes of the August 2024 community council minutes, regarding airfield. "There is an interest in community purchase of the airstrip site but retention of the airstrip itself is not necessarily a priority, so could we say: Potential Community Purchase of the airstrip with the potential to repurpose the site for community benefit."

"Progress has been slow since then and we continue to engage with Highland Council who have just put a further paper to their Economy & Infrastructure Committee giving an update on the Council’s four airfields. In terms of Plockton Airstrip the intention is that Highland Council would wish to explore options with the Trust and wider community before making any decisions or recommendations. We will continue to engage on this."

Article from 2004 on the post-fuedal changes to Scots property law by Shepherd and Wedderburn.
The chages have a particular impact on pre-emption rights and restrictive covenants.
This is the title plan from the sale of the land that was to become Plockton Airfield to Highland Council. You will notice that little chunks of land had to be taken off the neighbours to put together an airfield - a real community effort!
The title deeds can be read by clicking here.
Some points of interest: The owner must construct, maintain and repair an airstrip; The owner has sole responsibility to maintain and repair fences to the satisfaction of the NTS; The land must be used as an airstrip only and for no other purpose; National Trust for Scotland have a right of pre-emption - they can match any price someone offers.
This is a breakdown of the £14,750 rateable value.
