The Ministry for Magic is the main governing body of the magical community in Great Britain and Ireland with the intention of preservation of magical law. The Ministry connects the British government to the wizarding world. The Ministry of Magic headquarters are located deep underground in Whitehall, central London. It is headed by a Minister of Magic.

The Ministry of Magic was formed in 1707 succeeding the earlier Wizards’ Council. It involved, before its formation, the International Confederation of Wizards' decision to enact the Statute of Secrecy in 1692 which took responsibility for enforcing the said Statute in the United Kingdom.
