If you have any questions about the club that aren't listed here, feel free to email us at wwhs.aiexploration@gmail.com!
Is there an official registry that we have to fill out to become a member?
As long as you fill out the interest form, you will be added to the mailing list and considered a member of the club!
Do I need previous experience in computer science or AI to join?
Not at all! This club is meant for people of all knowledge and experience levels! We aim to teach you any fundamental programming and machine learning skills necessary during our demos and projects!
Do I need to install anything?
No. Most of our demos and projects will be done on Google Colab. Google Colab works just like Google Docs, where you can create a notebook from your personal Drive and start coding on it for free. Everything is run on Google’s servers!
Why are we using Python?
Not only is Python easy to learn (and it's taught in principles computer science classes here at Westwood), but almost all the libraries we are using are implemented in Python. It is the most common language for artificial intelligence and machine learning, even used by researchers at universities and developers at Google!
Am I required to be proficient in Python?
Not at all, we aim to teach you all the Python you need to know for machine learning. However, if you want to review or you want a head start, you can go to Codecademy and complete some basic Python lessons!
What is the student project?
We will have an annual project (optional, but highly recommended to gain experience!) that is student-led and can be on any topic you want. It can be solely research around an AI tool or implementation, or you can build your own model!
Where can we have discussions?
We have a discussion thread in the Schoology group where you can add any questions or comments you might have. You can also share interesting tools or resources!
