Family Pairing Program

Dear neighbors,

Thank you so much for your time, care, money and energy. In the last week, we have had a surge in responses from volunteers interested in helping with food deliveries and in learning about other organizations that are directly engaged with anti-racist work. Not surprisingly, given the closures of many supermarkets and the disruption of some food distribution services, we have also seen an increase in grocery requests. We are thrilled that news of support is traveling through our community and that so many families in need of assistance are reaching out to us. However, at the moment our entirely donation-based funding for food assistance has run out. Our current priority is laying the groundwork for a more sustainable system of support for families in our community as we enter the summer.

We are implementing a Family Pairing Program in which we can connect a family (or group of families) with financial resources with a family that is in need of regular food assistance. Families that are interested in supporting food assistance can choose to do the deliveries themselves, or we connect you to our existing delivery volunteers. If you are not able to cover the entire cost of weekly groceries of a family, a family pod is an option -- groups of people can be assigned to one household in need of groceries. Deliveries have been averaging around $30/week for small families and around $50-60 for larger families, depending on size. The majority of households we deliver to are small (1-2 family members).

At this time, all of the households we deliver food to are undocumented, disabled, quarantined without income, homeless, or living in CHA senior housing. We remain committed to supporting economically disadvantaged and/or BIPOC* folks in our neighborhood.

If you are not able to join the Family Pairing program, but are interested in supporting us with a one-time donation, you can visit our GoFundMe by clicking the Donate button on this site. We are completely volunteer run, so every dollar we raise goes directly to families.
