Battle of the Books
Battle of the Books
Battle of the Books was a true success this year! Between the 3rd-6th grades there were 76 teams (30 for 3rd/4th grades & 46 for 5th/6th grades) that read, prepared, memorized and battled! What an amazing turnout and a huge congratulations to all the teams who participated in the fun.
The halls and battle rooms were full of energy, excitement and team spirit (along with some fun props and costumes). The Sweet 16 for each group battled to the very end and were so gratuitous and respectful. In true tournament fashion, there were some upsets and underdogs which made for an exciting event. Overall, the kids had such great sportsmanship win or lose! It was so impressive to see them give their all, manage their emotions, and cheer on the other teams.
The winning team for the 3rd/4th Grades was the “Banana Splits Come Back” (Team members:Emma Moss, Kate Hansen, Charlotte Poll, Olivia Meier & Sky Pritchett). Second Place was “Da Caboodle Noodles” (Team members: Norah Thornton, Peyton Adams, Ava Higbee & Abby McDaniel).
The winning team for the 5th/6th Grades was the “Flamingos on Twinkies” (Team members: William Moss, Hudson Poll, Oliver Taylor, Brady Bunker & Levi McArthur). This team will advance to the district competition representing Westfield Elementary on Sat. March 23! Good Luck Boys!!
The second place team for 5th/6th grade was the “Cheerios” (Team members: Grace Aden, Holland Bird, Aria Bybee & Alice Dewey).
We would like to express a special thank you to ALL the amazing volunteers who made this event possible! THANK YOU!! Especially, a HUGE thank you to a few people who went above and beyond:
Elise Sheldrake-our amazing librarian, who works with the kids for hours throughout the entire year preparing for the Battle of the Books.
Michelle Standford-our resident “foodie”, who spoils all the volunteers with her AMAZING spreads of yummy breakfasts, treats and drinks the entire week! She has done this for the Battle of the Books at Westfield for years! Let’s be honest…most of the volunteers probably come for her yummy food. The Granola itself is to die for!
Keia Nannie, Emily Poll and Cortney Dickson came in regularly during the winter and helped with record keeping and sticker application.
