OTHNIEL ANTWI

World FISTF Ranking:  -World WASPA Ranking: -AUS WASPA Ranking: -AUS Power Ranking: 57
Othniel first came across Subbuteo when he joined a competition at his school. In his first year he was the runner up. His greatest claim to fame is his achievement in the Junior section of the 2017 Australian Grand Prix (his first ever tournament outside of school) where he, again, managed to finish as runner up. He's now focusing his attention on whether he might actually be able to win something, rather than always be second best.

FRANCK COZZARIN

World FISTF Ranking: World WASPA Ranking: 144AUS WASPA Ranking: 16AUS Power Ranking: 6
Franck found subbuteo when looking for a hobby to take up during the first COVID lockdown. It quickly turned into an obsession and Franck joined Western Sydney Subbuteo as soon as he discovered the club. He has quickly become Sydney's most travelled club night player, making himself available for every tournament he possibly can. This has also helped his game develop quickly, making him one of the club's top players after just a few short years. Just don't put the trophy in his hand before a tournament is over - getting that close is usually enough to put him off for the next few hours and see his chances crumble under the weight of the prize.

STEVE DIASINOS

World FISTF Ranking: -
World WASPA Ranking: -AUS WASPA Ranking: -AUS Power Ranking: 22
While many players spend hours researching, buying and preparing their customised table football carry cases, Steve is still mourning the demise of his beloved paper bag from Lush cosmetics, which he used to carry his team, carefully placed in a plastic sandwich bag inside. The heart and soul of Western Sydney Subbuteo's banter, Steve is one of the club's longest serving players, having discovered it via his good mates, Gordy and the dearly departed Rob, who turned his back on the game after one sledge too many from Steve.

ÆOWYN ELMER

World FISTF Ranking: -World WASPA Ranking: 622AUS WASPA Ranking: 55AUS Power Ranking: 55
Æowyn got her start in subbuteo building lego fences for the pitches at September Cups in the late 2000s, before becoming a player herself in 2014. She is best known for her hand-painted team, Sweet Apple Acres FC, based on her favourite My Little Pony character from her childhood, Apple Jack. The golden hair on those figures are enough to scare any opponent.

ADRIAN ELMER

World FISTF Ranking: 280World WASPA Ranking: 35AUS WASPA Ranking: 3AUS Power Ranking: 5
Western Sydney Subbuteo's founder, Adrian got his first Subbuteo set at age 11, but didn't find out how to play properly until he was 41. He has been known to score the odd own goal in tournament grand finals, throwing away hard earned leads in the process. Knowing that he'll never be one of the great players, he devotes more time to table football graphic design and tournament organisation than to actually playing.

IMOJJEN ELMER

World FISTF Ranking: 752 (Open)

World WASPA Ranking: 253AUS WASPA Ranking: 25AUS Power Ranking: 35 (Open)2 (Women)
Imojjen has been a keen fan of subbuteo since early childhood, when she would hand design score charts for the September Cup. She played her first tournament at the 2013 September Cup and has tussled with her sister for bragging rights ever since. Her team is a distinctive pink and gold design of her own, and she loves bringing it out and seeing opponents' reactions, especially the backwards thinking boys who always thought of subbuteo as a male domain.

JOSH ESTRELLA

World FISTF Ranking: -World WASPA Ranking: -AUS WASPA Ranking: -AUS Power Ranking: 38
Josh learned subbuteo at school and so has a solid, six year grounding in the basics. His jump to club competition came in the Spring League of 2023 and his level of play jumped significantly as a result of regular games against experienced opponents. This allowed him to ease past many of those school opponents in his last term before graduating, until travel issues meant he couldn't get in for the final few games of the school tournament. All Josh needs now to take his game to the next level is his driver's license, so that he's not relying on his mum to pick him up and drop him off all the time.

DAVID GALLARDO

World FISTF Ranking: -World WASPA Ranking: 706AUS WASPA Ranking: 62AUS Power Ranking: 73
David finally started playing competitively when his son, Ethan, kept bugging him to take him to tournaments, so he figured he might as well join in rather than stand around bored for hours. His game developed significantly during his first full season - the 2023 Spring League. After an opening day thrashing at the hands of Ethan, he improved to the point of picking up 2 wins out of 3 on the final day, and having his son declare that he no longer wants to play against him, for fear of losing his bragging rights.

ETHAN GALLARDO

World FISTF Ranking: -World WASPA Ranking: 561AUS WASPA Ranking: 51AUS Power Ranking: 30
Ethan began playing subbuteo as a 12 year old at his school and quickly became a dominant force in that arena, defeating a staff member in the Grand Final of the school tournament in his first year of playing. Making semi-regular appearances over the years in external tournaments, he remained one of the favourites each year at school. Unfortunately, his quest to win a metal goalkeeper to go with the hand painted team he won in that first year went unfinished, as a series of unexpected semi-final losses, COVID-destroyed seasons and forfeits so he could attend Schoolies' meant he never again scaled the heights he did as a beginner.

COSTA KAMARADOS

World FISTF Ranking:  -World WASPA Ranking: 416AUS WASPA Ranking: 42AUS Power Ranking: 56
Costa is a founding member of Western Sydney Subbuteo, having competed in the first ever tournament back in 2003, barely missing any since. In recent years, he has quietly climbed his way up the club pecking order, using his reputation as an easy beat to his advantage as he picks off more fancied opponents. His Greek figures live up to the reputation of their real life counterparts, with low scoring draws a common theme in Costa's results column.

PAUL MAGEE

World FISTF Ranking: 752World WASPA Ranking: 309AUS WASPA Ranking: 35AUS Power Ranking: 7
Paul Magee is an institution in Australian subbuteo. Starting his own club in Mt Druitt in the 1970s, he remains an icon in Western Sydney. While other veterans try to keep up with every bland development, Magee refuses to do anything which may interfere with the aesthetic qualities of the game, creating his own, idiosyncratic (but highly effective) style instead. This leads to many confused opponents, who have no idea how to cope with tactics such as 'The Magee Swarm'.

LOUIS MICALLEF

World FISTF Ranking:  -World WASPA Ranking: -AUS WASPA Ranking: -AUS Power Ranking: 85
The Godfather of Western Sydney Subbuteo played his first game in 1961. He is now the owner of, arguably, the most impressive Subbuteo set up in the country. Seemingly mild-mannered, he gets fired up whenever he concedes a goal, and is a loud proponent of the introduction of VAR technology on all such occasions.

RAY MICALLEF

World FISTF Ranking: -World WASPA Ranking: 734 AUS WASPA Ranking: 63AUS Power Ranking: 17
After promising to come along to a club event for over a year, Ray finally got offline and into real life Subbuteo in the middle of 2018. A promising start was confirmed with a draw against reigning Spring League Champion, Paul Magee, in the pair's opening round clash. However, Ray's interest in the game lies mostly in the opportunities it provides him to sledge his father. In an attempt to improve his overall chances, in 2023 Ray opened up the premises of his FitDistrict Gym to host subbuteo tournaments, so that he would always have the home ground advantage.

VINCE MICALLEF

World FISTF Ranking:  -World WASPA Rankings: - AUS WASPA Ranking: -AUS Power Ranking: 23
Vince, like his brother, Ray, joined the club in 2018 after a long pedigree of family fights over Subbuteo pitches throughout his life. Some good form in his first ever Spring League participation propelled him towards the top end of the table, something he is keen to remind Ray of at every opportunity.

JOHN PHOKOS

World FISTF Ranking:  -World WASPA Ranking: 644AUS WASPA Ranking: 58AUS Power Ranking: 83
John is another in the ranks of the 'Well, my kid makes me bring them along so I might as well join in' brigade. Playing semi-regularly in WASPA tournaments across the early 2020s, he is gradually building up the confidence to compete more often. Of course, his main motive for irregular competition is the desire to avoid any uncomfortable fixtures against his son, Tim.

TIM PHOKOS

World FISTF Ranking:  -World WASPA Ranking: 275AUS WASPA Ranking: 30AUS Power Ranking: 20
Tim started playing Subbuteo at school at the age of 12. By the age of 13 he'd memorised the FISTF rule book. At 14 he was playing against the adults in WSS WASPA tournaments. At 15 he was shattered to lose his first school tournament grand final, even though he went in as the unbackable favourite. At 16, he joined the Spring League and went into a second school grand final, again, as the unbackable favourite. This time, he made no mistakes and showed no mercy against his younger brother. All that is left for Tim to do now is to learn how to overcome his nerves every time he gets near a Subbuteo pitch.

DAVID RUDD

World FISTF Ranking:  -World WASPA Ranking: 388AUS WASPA Ranking: 41AUS Power Ranking: 31
Dave first tried out Subbuteo as a school boy in the late 80s and has, in the ensuing decades, dipped his toe in at different times, in between extended breaks from the game. With an aging body inhibiting his outdoor sporting prowess, he took up the game more seriously and regularly in the early 2020s in order to vent his competitive streak. Slowly learning the tactical side of the game he has, unfortunately, found opponents regularly scoring quick goals against him on the counter as he has refused to take his left hand out of his pocket while playing.

PAUL STOCKBRIDGE

World FISTF Ranking:  -World WASPA Ranking: 852AUS WASPA Ranking: 69AUS Power Ranking: 69
Paul made his competitive début in the September Cup of 2016. Not satisfied with being trounced in that tournament, he began turning up regularly for other tournaments and the Spring League. One can of Coke is normally enough to set him going for an evening, with his main tactic being to distract his opponents into submission through a series of loud puns and insults. Unfortunately, this has not, thus far, proved overly successful.

INACTIVE PLAYERS

The following players are currently inactive but have been a big part of our club history

MATHEW BARRIE

Mat found the game randomly with a friend in a games shop and immediately fell in love with it. He made his competitive début in March, 2015 during the club's road trip tournament in Berry. He is best known for his ability to reach any part of the pitch from a safe spot behind his own goal and for his inability to make any flick without his tongue hanging out.

GORDY DUDLEY

Gordy was introduced to Subbuteo by his Leeds loving father and has, since playing his first official tournament in April, 2014, been an enigmatic presence in the club, coming in and out irregularly to post an unexpected victory against a top player here or a shattering loss to a weaker player there. Not many players have a specific feature of the game named after them, but everybody in the Sydney Subbuteo world knows that 'doing a Gordy' means missing a golden opportunity to score in an open goal when the opponent's traveling 'keeper has been stranded on the pitch.

ETHAN FOSTER

Ethan paved the way as the club's first Sydney FC loving player. We still let him take part in spite of this severe character flaw. He made his competitive début in May, 2014.

BEN GILBERT

Ben played his first game of Subbuteo in August 2018 and, a month later, was taking part in the Spring League. Yet to pick up his first victory, the Divine Ponytail has, however, become a goalkeeper of some skill.

LEIVUR RAGNARSSON

Leivur first played subbuteo as a kid in his native Faroe Islands. After a break of a few decades, he was reintroduced to the game via connections with a few different Western Sydney Subbuteo players. He has a deadly shot which means his goal to shot ratio is very high. Now, he's working on actually getting into the shooting area during games to take advantage of this quality.

DAVID SULTANA

Dave discovered the world of Subbuteo and 2015 and, soon after, contacted ATFA to find out about playing competitively. His first competition was in a Western Sydney Subbuteo (Subbuteo Parramatta) WASPA tournament in January of 2016 and he has been a stalwart of the club ever since. A recent sabbatical due to the birth of his first child is, no doubt, merely a cover for him to build up his skills and teach his son the game, in order for them both to storm back in the near future.
