The Western Massachusetts Swimming Officials Association is always seeking individuals interested in becoming a member. Enrollment and training usually begins in August to prepare for the season which starts in December. If interested in becoming a member of the WMSOA, please fill out form below. In the form, share your past experience in swimming and diving as well as other related experience in officiating athletic events. Based on experience and the need for officials, candidates will be selected and invited to training sessions which are held in the Fall.
To become certified, all individuals must commit to attend all training sessions and pass a test on the NFHS rules for swimming and diving. In addition, new candidates must take and pass the required concussion course provided by the MIAA. New candidates can be assigned meets once they have passed the tests, been signed off on meet training, paid their association dues, cleared a background check and have purchased all necessary uniform items. In addition, new members, must attend the preseason meeting and clinic held in November and the annual meeting in January in order to remain in good standing.
All high school meets are assigned by the PVIAC Commissioner and the Midwatch League assigner for high school meets in the PVIAC and Worcester County respectively. All College and Prep School Meets are assigned by the WMSOA assigner (minimum 2 years of membership and board approval necessary). Rates for payment for officiating are per MIAA Blue Book Guidelines and a negotiated agreement between the WMSOA and the local colleges we serve.
