We are a local group formed as part of the global Rights of Nature movement and driven by the recognition that our laws and institutions are inherently incapable of protecting the natural world and must be changed. Our work and vision are twofold:
Stop the extractive practices and destruction of our lands and waters by seeking to pass laws that confer standing and actionable rights on non-human living entities.
Shift the cultural view embedded in our society and laws that sees humans as separate and apart from the non-human world and nature as a commodity to be exploited at will for human need and corporate profit. Promote a different cultural view - one that emphasizes the relationships between, and interdependence of, all living things and understands that if we destroy the natural world we destroy ourselves.
We know that laws shape culture and that culture shapes laws, so we are working to change both.
