These are the classroom rules within my room at WestDale Elementary. The rules were constructed to model student behavior and provide a safe and peaceful learning space for all children.
Listen carefully when others are speaking - Teaches the students that others opinions/views matter and that they should be heard.
Follow directions - Teaches the students that listening directions help to form an organized and productive environment.
Don't disturb others who are working - Teachers the students to have respect for others' work
Respect others and their property - Reinforces the prospect of respect in order to show that other people and their things are to be cared for.
Play safe and have fun - Teaches the students that safety is important even while playing.
In order to provide reinforcement to the rules and expectations within our classroom, the logical consequences provides the students with the outcomes of their behavior if they so choose.
-Disturbing the class - results in a warning, if the behavior persists, a time out is given.
-Abusing property- whether it be school or another student's property, the result of abuse is an obvious loss of privilege of item in question.
-Name calling- Obviously, here at WestDale, students are taught to respect one another, therefore verbal disrespect such as this will be met with a stern warning and will result in a separation if behavior continues after warning.
-Fighting/Hurting one another- our classroom has a zero tolerance for violence, and will result in a timeout or a trip the the principal's office.
-Incomplete work- requires one to stay after school or will have to continue the work the next day
-Cheating- our classroom also has a zero tolerance for cheating, so cheating will result in a grade of 0, and/or detention.
