The Cast of 2018's spring mainstage production Barry Manilow's Copacabana.
The Drama Studio at West Ashley began when West Ashley High School opened its new building in 2001. Since that school year, the program has delighted the West Ashley community with main stage productions like West Side Story, Ragtime, Little Shop of Horrors, Hercules, Les Miserables, Legally Blonde, Shrek, and Hairspray. The Studio (now West Ashley Theatre Arts) is currently directed by Laura Watson and Latanya Mueller. Recent productions include Fame , Crazy for You, Kanye's Quest, and Property Rites.
Thank you Ricardo Gonterman for this behind the scenes peek at theatre class at West Ashley High School.
We offer a comprehensive theater arts program where students have the opportunity to gain performance experience at all levels of our coursework. Students also learn technical theater skills like set construction, costume design, and lighting design and put these skills to use in real theater experience applications.

Meet The Team
Laura Watson has been teaching at WAHS for 2 years, and appreciates the opportunities she has been given to work with the wonderful students here. She has a BA in Theatre, and a MAT for K-12 Theatre Education. Laura had wonderful middle and high school theatre programs as she grew up, so she wants to ensure that the students here have the opportunity to build the same love and appreciation for the arts as she did.
