3rd Workshop on Emerging Software Engineering Education

WESEE 2020

Co-located with the 13th Innovations in Software Engineering Conference (ISEC 2020)

27 February 2020, Jabalpur, India | IIITDM Jabalpur

Theme: Software engineering Education and Training - Teaching Methodologies and Experiences

Thanks to all the Participants for attending the workshop.

See you at WESEE 2021!!

WESEE 2020 aims to invoke discussions towards teaching software engineering in the classrooms, challenges, and futuristic aspirations through invited talks, experience reports, and rigorous discussions on unleashing various creative methods of teaching and evaluation along with innovative course curricula and learning environments being employed at higher educational levels in academia and industry to teach software engineering and closely related courses.

  • Invited Talks
  • Activities
  • Discussions

We welcome academicians, practitioners, and researchers to attend the workshop. The talks/presentations followed by discussions will help to identify and understand gaps in the Software Engineering curriculum and teaching pedagogy.

Goals:

Software Engineering (SE) field is evolving fast to adopt technological innovations and to meet the requirements of modern-day software systems. A well-trained and highly-skilled workforce is required to push this evolution forward hence it becomes the key element for a successful future of software engineering. Inculcating the science and philosophy of software engineering processes in the young and old demands the introduction of out-of-the-box teaching methods at all levels of education dissemination. Software engineering represents one of the most change-prone educational contents in the computer science curricula at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, as a plethora of new software development process models, methods, and tools are unleashed each day. The contents of a typical software engineering course must cover various processes, methods, and tools needed to support the development, operation, and maintenance of large-scale software systems. In addition, one of the key focus areas of these courses must be the various interpersonal and communication skills desired for a fully accomplished software engineer.

The 3rd edition of WESEE 2020 aims to invoke discussions towards teaching software engineering in the classrooms effectively. The main focus of the workshop will be on identifying various challenges possess by the classroom teaching of software engineering and on finding futuristic solutions for the same through invited talks, experience reports and hands-on practices. Additionally, the workshop will be supplemented with rigorous discussions on unleashing various creative methods of teaching and evaluation along with innovative course curricula and learning environments being employed at higher educational levels in academia and industry to teach software engineering and closely related courses. More specifically, the 2020 workshop edition will be more focused on addressing the teaching methodologies, difficulties and challenges faced by the instructors/coaches in the teaching and learning environment.

Highlights:

Aiming for a presentation and discussion-oriented event, WESEE intends to have research paper presentations and keynote's lectures along with discussion session(s) intended to get useful insights by provoking discussions on various topics related to Software Engineering Education.

WESEE aims to bring together software engineering educators from: academia - who understand how the education scenarios and research are changing the mechanisms of teaching software engineering related courses, and industry - who understand how software engineers are trained or how software development is "coached" in industry.

Who can attend?

Practitioners and researchers both from industry and academia can attend the workshop. We welcome all academicians (who teach software engineering/development related courses and conduct research in software education), software development coaches and trainers from industries.

Expected Takeaway:

WESEE 2020 aims to invoke discussions and futuristic aspirations through invited talks, paper presentations, activity-based sessions, and rigorous discussions on unleashing various creative methods of teaching and evaluation along with innovative course curricula and learning environments, being employed at higher educational levels in academia and industry to teach software engineering and closely related courses.
