I’ve always been active so I don’t remember why I started, I just know I never stopped.
The Battery and Noisette Bridge at dawn
Bridge Run and 5ks.
Pre-race: black coffee and a bagel with peanut butter. Post Race: mimosas and brunch foods
My kids and my health.
Depends on the day. Sometimes I listen to hip hop and other times it’s indie alt rock.
Biking with Jack (5 year old), Going to the beach and spending time with my friends and family.
What is your why?

I’ve started running track in middle school and a little bit in high school. In college we started running trails more than hiking, but nothing competitive. Besides a few 5Ks here and there, I really didn’t start running races again until joining Park Circle Pacers.
I enjoy running out in nature as opposed to the city. Trails in the Francis Marion NF and Marrington Plantation are my go to. I also like running around the downtown peninsula and of course the Ravenel Bridge.
15K is a fun race distance for me, but I am working towards ultra distances now.
Pre-race is usually coffee (probably way too much), oatmeal, and some fruit.
Post-race I like some quick sugars in fruit or beer, maybe a free bagel, and of course more beer.
I think I need a goal or race to work for to keep myself accountable. Otherwise I love being able to go new places and see things outdoors powered by my own feet and sometimes a bike.
I always have a podcast or audio book queued up for a run.
Being in the outdoors and anything that helps me get there.
Adventuring with my wife and dogs.
Gathering in groups of three or more people, in a public place. (too soon?)
How is everyone holding up in isolation? Is anyone doing a virtual race yet? Maybe we should have a PCP one…
I have been running Ons for the past year, but I am considering switching as I get into longer distances. I love my Altra Lone Peaks for the rail though!

My long-time friend, Lee Bell, got me started in 1984 just before I turned 31. Came fairly easy to me as I was always thin and had recently started taking (high impact) aerobics classes at my gym.
On the Ravenel Bridge. Used to have to run on the narrow sidewalk of the old Silas Pearman Bridge. Lee would say, “I feel like we are moments from death on either side of us.” There was only a low guardrail on the water side and semi-trucks flying by on the other.
Favorite race has always been the Cooper River Bridge Run. The 8th annual was my very first race in 1985. Have not missed one since. Favorite distance used to be the marathon (have completed 89) Nowadays, the half seems more to my liking. Hoping to get back into doing marathons this year.
Pasta and salad or pizza night before. Oatmeal or BelVita cookie or Paleo bar and coffee morning of. A cheeseburger & fries post.
Running in group runs with the PCP and the CRC
Never have run with music but do enjoy hearing upbeat songs along race routes. Used to love doing aerobics to Prince (“Let’s Go Crazy”) or Pointer Sisters (“Neutron Dance”) or Kenny Loggins (“Footloose”)
Spend way too much time on FB, playing games such as Words with Friends, Dice with Friends, and Cookie Jam. Travel, hiking, thrift store shopping, and of course taking lots of pics!
Do you pick up money when you spot it while running and if so, what was the most you ever found? (I found a $10 bill once)
Currently running in Altras, On Cloud, and Brooks Ghost. No longer buy Mizuno, Hokas, or Newtons. Would not rule out NB, Saucony, or Nike in the future. Open for suggestions!

I started running when in 2011 when I was 24 years old. I grew up with terrible asthma and no health insurance. I also longed to be a runner but wasn’t allowed to due to my asthma and not being able to afford an inhaler. After I became a teacher, I grabbed an inhaler and got to work.
I love running around the old base (the Sunday loop) because I hardly ever face anybody burning anything when I run up there. If people are burning leaves or mowing their grass, I sometimes have an asthma attack.
I love 10ks. They’re a great speed challenge but not too long.
Pre-race dinner: a brown rice bowl with black beans, spinach, plain Greek yogurt and salsa. Post race – beer.
“You’ll never run a mile without stopping.” That’s what I was told by an asthma and allergy specialist doctor when I was 24 and headed to get my asthma assessed. #suckitasthma came from this interaction and it’s why I make time to run.
First Date – Blink-182
Lifting weights and HIIT workouts. I love reading and playing with my dogs too.

I started dabbling with running when I got my Blue Heeler, Casey, during the Spring of 2013. I began taking running more seriously Fall 2018 when I joined PCP
I get lost quickly, so Park Circle is a nice, easy, giant circle; I’m dull and don’t mind doing the same route over and over again. I also love the Naval base and the Riverfront Park
The 10k
Pre-race: Coffee. Post-Race: More coffee and anything from EVO bakery
Curiosity. I’m always wondering what I can accomplish next.
Truth Hurts by Lizzo. Also, guiltily, most anything by Pitbull
Kayaking, learning to garden, taking beach days
What’s the best non-traditional running tip someone’s told you?
Brooks. Plus, I love the charities they support
I have worked for Buck Management for almost 15 years as their Director of Franchised Food Service. My responsibility is to oversee multiple concepts from Sonics, Bojangles, Cinnabons, and Food Service in our Blue Water Convenience Stores.

I have been a part time runner my whole life. It wasn't until I had some medical issues in 2014-2015 that I decided to start running more which quickly become an obsession. Especially after meeting so many nice people.
I love running downtown Charleston through Battery, Waterfront, and Hampton Park.
I love half marathons or 13.1 to our non running readers. Race the Landing Series is my favorite. It has Competition, Fellowship and Eating, all the things that I love! This series introduced me to the Greater Charleston Running community and I have forged so many wonderful friendships who have really become my second family.
Carbs, Carbs, and more Carbs! I usually have pizza or pasta the night before. My typical pre-race meal is oatmeal, banana, cliff bar and a Starbucks Iced Vanilla Latte. The post race celebration is Bacon, Burgers and or Pizza! Not necessarily in that order.
My family! I have a beautiful wife and son which is my "why" for trying to live the healthiest life I can.
Depending on my mood, it could be Boccelli (dare to live), Linkin Park (numb), or Mercy Me (I can only Imagine)
Fun activities with my family, reading, and swimming (for exercise and with my little monkey)
What motivates them? I love hearing their stories and what their "why" is. I feel it helps me with my journey as well as develops friendships. Fellow runners are always willing to lift up, help out, and look out for each other.
My favorite shoe is On Cloud Flow and Hoka Clifton 5
