As magical as electricity may seem, this invisible thing that powers our world is really just a collection of charges flowing from one area to another.
If you’ve ever shocked yourself by touching a door handle, you’ve created electricity! That type of electricity is called Static Electricity and it results when you charge a group of electrons. You can do this by friction, like when you slide your feet across the carpet. When you touch the door handle, you transfer those charges, which results in a shock!
The type of electricity that we’ll be looking at is more controlled and runs through a circuit, which is why we’re able to use it in so many ways. A circuit is a pathway where charges are able to flow freely. There are two types of circuits:
