Remixes are all over. We see remixes on social media, you have remixes in your house, we hear remixes on the radio, we see remixes in art museums, and we watch remixes on TV. A remix is something old that is changed to become something new. Let’s look at a few examples of popular remixes:
Memes were once photographs. As these photographs are changed by people on the internet, they become remixes.
Most people have heard a remixed song before. They are fun, alternative takes on the original!
Collages often take existing media, like magazine and newspaper clippings, and turn them into new artworks. This Robert Rauschenberg work is an example of a collage.
Play or movie adaptations are also remixes! For example, West Side Story is loosely based on Romeo and Juliet.
