The idea for the We’re Talkin’ Books! Club began in 2010 when the Livermore Public Library asked for volunteers to start an on-site book club. Four women who belonged to another book club—Susan Edgar-Lee, Linda Milanese, Tammy Reus and Caroline Harben—met over coffee to discuss organizing a new group that would benefit Livermore readers looking to join a local book club. Joyce Nevins, Livermore librarian, helped with publicity and the logistics of securing a permanent meeting room.
The bimonthly book club was launched on 10/14/10. At that first meeting, the group compiled a list of personally recommended books which continues to evolve as new titles are added. Members vote online, choosing titles for future discussions. At every meeting Towne Center Books of Pleasanton provides discounted copies of the next selected title— a convenience for members as well as a way to support our last independent bookstore in the Valley.
On 12/2/10, the We’re Talkin’ Books! Club met to discuss its first selection, The Help by Kathryn Stockett. The club continues to meet, generally, on the first Thursday of every other month at the Livermore Library.
New members are always welcome.
