My academic journey began at HKUST, where I initially pursued a science major. However, my perspective shifted after enrolling in several social science courses at ust, as I discovered a genuine passion for the subject matter within the realm of social science and humanities. One particular area that fascinated me was political science. In the summer of 2022, I had the fortunate opportunity to join Professor Zheng Wenjuan's research group, where I delved into the realm of charitable work, private and public companies, philanthropic institutions, and different organizations, with a specific focus on Government-organized non-governmental organizations (GONGOs) in mainland China. This research experience aligned closely with my academic interests, as it provided me with invaluable insights into the efficacy of China's approach to achieving the objectives of the third distribution.
During my time as a research assistant during the summer of 2022, I had the privilege of collaborating with students hailing from diverse universities and regions. This collaborative environment proved immensely beneficial, as it allowed me to enhance my skills in teamwork and coordination, provided me with an enriched perspective by fostering interactions with individuals from different academic disciplines.
As a result of these experiences, I made the decision to change my major from Ocean Science to Global China Studies. This shift not only reflects my newfound passion for social sciences but also signifies my commitment to further exploring the intricate dynamics of China's global presence. Building upon my previous research involvement, I am currently engaged as a research assistant under the guidance of Professor Zheng once again. In this capacity, I am continuing our investigation into the topic we initially explored during the summer of 2022, hoping to deepening my understanding and contributing to the field of Global China Studies.
Upon completing my role as a research assistant with Professor Zheng in the upcoming year, it is also the time for me to graduate from the bachelor degree. However, I am eager to embark on the next phase of my academic journey. Currently, my intention is to pursue a MPhill and PhD in the fields of Political Science and International Relations, with a specific focus on the dynamics of China's global engagement. I have been exploring various universities and departments that offer robust programs in this area, such as the MPhil(SOSC) and PhD(SOSC) in HKUST, as well as Department of Politics and Public Administration at University of Hong Kong.
