I am an associate professor of Economics at National Taipei University (NTPU). Prior to joining the NTPU, I was a senior economist at Statistics Canada (2001-2009; 2014-2020), and an economist specializing in inequality at the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) between 2009 and 2014. I received my Ph.D. degree in economics from Michigan State University in 2004.
My research focuses on labour economics and applied econometrics, with particular attention to inequality, intergenerational mobility, well-being and health inequalities. My current research explores rich micro datasets from various sources, both comparative and country-specific, to understand the roles of individual characteristics, family backgrounds, firms as well as policies and institutions in shaping a nation’s labour market and living standards.
My research has published in international peer-reviewed journals, including Review of Economics and Statistics, Canadian Journal of Economics, Labour Economics, Urban Studies, Economics and Human Biology, Review of Income and Wealth, Canadian Public Policy, Applied Economics, Sociology of Health and Illness, PLoS ONE, and Demography. I am also the main author of two flagship OECD publications “Divided We Stand: why inequality keeps rising (OECD 2011)” and In It Together: why less inequality benefits all (OECD 2015)”.
