My education and training: I have a Bachelor's degree in Music and a Master's degree in Mental Health Counseling. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and a Board-Certified Music Therapist. I also have certifications as Certified Clinical Trauma Specialist-Individual (CCTSI), a Certified First Responder Counselor (CFRC), and am EMDR-Certified. In addition, I am a Certified Professional Counselor Supervisor (CPCS), providing clinical supervision and acting as an educator, guide, and example for others preparing to enter the profession.
I have over 25 years of experience in a variety of mental health settings, providing counseling in both inpatient and outpatient psychiatric centers, public schools, medical centers, community mental health agencies and programs, forensic settings, and the Veterans Administration. These diverse experiences have given me deep insight into the human condition and taught me that everyone's story is important.
While all these parts of my education and training are necessary and valuable, I'm sure you will understand when I say that my deepest training and education came from and continues to come from both my personal and professional experiences that have helped me develop insight and understanding of myself, others, and the human experience as only living life and being fully in it can.
I hold a Bachelor's degree in Secondary Education, a Master's in Counseling, and a PhD in Counselor Education and Supervision. All my professional life, I have been teaching people. I am licensed as an Associate Professional Counselor. I have over 20 years of experience counseling, teaching, and coaching families, couples, individuals, and groups.; primarily working with children, adolescents, and their families.
My areas of expertise encompass a wide range of topics, including, but not limited to, mental health concerns, managing sadness, dealing with anger, coping with nervousness, boosting motivation, navigating grief and loss, fostering wellness, promoting personal growth and development, honing communication skills, and addressing family and marital issues. These services are available for one-time sessions or can be continued on an ongoing basis to suit individual needs.
I enjoy working with people of all ages, cultures, and backgrounds. For this reason, like most therapists, I employ an eclectic combination of clinically sound and evidence-based approaches, theories, and interventions. At the core, I believe in collaborating with each individual to recognize and utilize their innate strengths and abilities to find their own path to healing and quality of life. My training and experiences have centered on working with those who have experienced emotional, physical, and sexual abuse as well as other forms of trauma, assisting others with depression, managing stress and anxiety, addressing life transitions, and navigating the challenges of emotional and psychiatric disorders. Additionally, I provide couples counseling and family therapy sessions.
Feelings of depression, fear, anxiety, confusion, anger, grief, trauma, and other struggles beset us all at times, and it's natural to want relief from these pains and struggles. As we work together, you will soon come to understand that in order to make lasting changes in our life, healing entails more than reducing symptoms and harmful behaviors. To be truly free from what drives and supports these behaviors and symptoms, their root causes require our understanding and attention. And this is where the healing takes place.
Through this work, you will continue to unlock inner sources of strength and create new ways of being. With empathy and compassion, I will also ask challenging questions to assist you in exploring new ideas, alternate ways of thinking and understanding, and to guide intuitive discovery in this process of creating the meaningful, sustainable change you desire and as part of helping you arrive at your own destination on solid ground. Therapy is a place where these things can happen.
I am a warm, straightforward, and down-to-earth counselor who believes you are the expert on your own life. My role is to come alongside you as a teammate, offering perspective, encouragement, and a place where you do not have to carry everything alone. Clients often tell me they feel understood, not judged, and gently challenged when they need it.
I work with individuals, couples, and families, as well as premarital counseling, groups, coaching, and consultation. Together, we might focus on communication and relationship issues, feeling sad or discouraged, anger and frustration, worry and overthinking, or building confidence, motivation, and personal growth. I am comfortable integrating your faith into counseling if you request it.
With over a decade of experience in Counseling, I bring depth and steadiness to the work we do together. Clients can expect that during our time together, we will work as a team of experts to address their concerns.
