All students should spend the first semester of the program at either Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne, or Università Ca' Foscari di Venezia (Italy) and the remaining semesters at one or more partner universities from the six Consortium Universities: Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona (Spain), Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne (France), Università Ca' Foscari di Venezia (Italy), Université catholique de Louvain (Belgium), Warsaw School of Economics (Poland) or University of Kansas (USA). All students must study in at least two partner universities (at least one semester in each one), and must spend their second year in only one partner university. This is the mobility component of the QEM program The second year is devoted to the chosen specialization.
The mobility plan for each student is decided during the Admission Process. In the application phase, the student should express their preferences about mobility. The Joint Graduate Committee chooses the proposed mobility track taking into account factors such as the student's preference, the wishes of the partners, and the equal distribution of students within the Consortium for the second year.
If a student is accepted into QEM, then the committee proposes a specific mobility plan. The student is notified about his acceptance with that mobility plan. The possible confirmation of intention to participate in the QEM program means accepting the proposed mobility track.
Mobility changes after confirmation of acceptance by the student are in general not possible for the Erasmus Mundus Scholarship holders. However, the Joint Graduate Committee can exceptionally allow such change under some particular situations.
The deadline for submitting requests for all mobility changes for the second semester is September 15 of the first year and for the second year is March 31 of the first year. Only the students without the Erasmus Mundus scholarships are concerned by this deadline. These requests must be sent to qemcoordinationassistant@univ-paris1.fr and qemapp@univ-paris1.fr .
Important: The M2 tracks offered by QEM are offered jointly with the six partner universities. Because of this, some of these universities have their own admissions juries, which decide on the admissibility of applicants into their M2 programs. These juries are independent of QEM, and QEM has no control over their decisions. Therefore, if a QEM student's academic performance during the first semester her first year is insufficient, then she might not be admitted to the M2 program originally specified in her mobility plan. This is rare, but it does happen. Such decisions made by the partner universities' own internal admissions juries, and QEM cannot overrule these decisions.
In particular, we have no visibility into the criteria used by these admissions juries. But here are some rough guidelines to help students know their chances. To be accepted into the M2 APE program at PSE, a student would need a mark of at least 90/100 in all four courses of the S1 semester. To be pre-accepted into the M2 MMMEF program or M2 IRFA program at Université Paris 1, a student would need an average of 80/100 for Optimization and in Probability in the S1 semester. If a student is not pre-accepted after S1, then they might still be accepted into the MMMEF and IRFA after S2, if they have a GPA above 80/100 at the end of the year and have not failed any courses. (We emphasize that these are rough guidelines --we cannot guarantee acceptance into these programs.)
Nevertheless, if the student finishes her M1 year of QEM in good academic standing (i.e. maintains a GPA of at least 3.0), then QEM will work with her to develop a revised mobility plan, which may involve attending a different M2 program at a different partner university in her second year. These mobility-change decisions will be made before May 31 of the M1 year. In any event, all QEM students who finish their M1 year in good academic standing are guaranteed an M2 placement at some partner university, even if it is not their first choice.
