End of Life Services

Planning for your pet's end-of-life can be a difficult process, so we at Chatham Sheriff's Animal Resource Center want to make it as easy as possible.

We offer free euthanasia services for aged, ill, or injured, owned pets. Clients must be Chatham County residents and must provide proof of residency and ownership, as well as proof of necessity for euthanasia, such as vet records.

Our euthanasia is performed by humane injection and a sedative is given before injection to ensure a safe, pain-free experience for your pet. Your pet will be fast asleep during the procedure. Owners can then take their pet home for home burial, take them to a crematory service, or request that the staff take care of the remains.

We request that you spend time with your pet during sedation, then step out of the room as we prepare them for humane injection. Owners are able to be present during the majority of the process.

Qualifying owners must call (919) 542.7203 to schedule an appointment with a staff member. All staff members assisting with humane euthanasia are trained under a licensed veterinarian and certified by the North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (NCAC).
