Welcome

Welcome to 6th Grade!

Hello! Welcome to the 2022-23 school year! I am pleased to take this opportunity to introduce myself to you and welcome your student to the sixth grade at Ashton Ranch Middle School. My name is Jennifer Smith and I will be teaching 6th Grade Math and Science. This will be my 27th year of teaching. I have taught 7 years in California and 19 years in the Dysart School District. I am a graduate of Wright State University, Fairborn, Ohio with a major in elementary education. In 2000, I received my master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction from California State University, Bakersfield, California.

I am looking forward to the upcoming school year, building upon the skills students mastered last year, and helping students accomplish new challenges in the math and science subject areas. I feel that a positive learning experience is built on a collaborative effort among parents, students, and teachers, and I welcome your questions and concerns as the year progresses.

For math we will be utilizing the curriculum from Illustrative Math. The units that will be taught this year are ratios and proportional relationships, the number systems, expressions and equations, geometry, and statistics and probability. For science, we will be utilizing the curriculum from Discovery Education and Generation Genius. The modules that will be taught are Energy Flow, Patterns in the Solar System, Ecology, and Human Impact on Ecosystems.

It is my ultimate goal for each of my sixth grade students to experience success and to foster a love of math and science. I am thrilled to work with you and your child over the course of the school year. If questions or concerns should arise, please feel free to email or call anytime.
