The GIF toggles between a few different drawings, with two different colorings. In one she has blue skin and white hair, with fully white eyes. In the other she is light skinned, with dark brown skin and fully black eyes. There are multicolored lines that flash on it as well, like a glitching computer.

Graveyard Shift

by Thea Sunada

Notes: He’s the best around, nothing’s ever going to keep him down! For context, “he” is Communications Officer Douglas Eiffel, and he would have wanted this sort of intro. One of my favorite parts of Wolf 359 is Eiffel and HERA’s friendship, which is a beacon of happiness in the sad confines of the Leo constellation. I see a lot of myself in HERA and can confirm that a personality like Eiffel’s would make the perfect foil.

A digital painting of a person in a spacesuit floating in space in front of Wolf 359. The suit is white, with pale orange accents and a bulky dark grey jetpack on the back. The person’s face is hidden by a white helmet with a blue faceplate. Wolf 359 is a glowing blue star which is colored with small lines in many different shades of blue. There are some faint blue strokes around Wolf 359 to show it’s glowing.

In the second panel Eiffel is looking at the recording device and saying “But, my dear listeners, you’ll be glad to hear,” In the third panel Eiffel is gesturing towards the grey spot on the wall with a suspicious expression and saying, “I am longer speaking with the grey spot on the wall.” In the fourth panel he is saying, “Because to be honest, he’s a bad influence.” In the fifth panel Eiffel is smiling and saying, “But we’ve reached an understanding!” In the sixth panel he is looking down and saying, “Mostly that this is where I die because nobody is coming for me.” In the seventh panel Eiffel is shrugging and looking at the ceiling. He is saying, “So, now, in this, my final will and testament I bequeath all my po-” He is cut off at the end. In the eighth panel he looks thoughtfully at the recording device. He is saying “Oh, well, I guess I don’t exactly have my pos-” He cuts himself off again. In the ninth panel he is saying “My bones! My valuable bones,” In the tenth panel Eiffel is leaning back and gesturing towards the grey spot on the wall. He says, “to this grey spot on the wall,” In the eleventh panel he says, “in this empty room.” In the twelfth panel he is angrily gesturing towards the wall and saying, “Because no one is coming to sa-”. He is cut off by Hilbert, a bald man in a white lab coat and glasses opening the door behind Eiffel and says “Eiffel. What are you doing?” In the bottom right corner is a text box that reads “Ty for reading! @ash_makes_trash”

Love Amongst the Stars

by Leo Renfield

The image is black and white except for the steam that has a slight tinge of orange. The image has two pipes in the foreground, blurred and black. Hilbert is far away surrounded by pipes and behind him is a hidden circular door that leads to the unknown. Hilbert himself is hard to see as his silhouette is obscured by the steam coming from the ceiling of a broken pipe. At the very bottom left of the illustration is a small textbox that reads: “Is anyone laughing now?”

Is Anyone Laughing Now?

by JasOso

Notes: All three of my pieces are supposed to be looked at like a tryptic! First Hilbert on the left, Minkowski in the middle and Eiffle on the right! He is the only one to be in an environment that lacks color. This is to reflect on how Hilbert- while being in the same situation as everyone else is, has isolated himself to a dead end.

The image is in a cramped one way corridor lit by the lights on the side of the wall that make the entire illustration red to show a cause for alarm. There are wires on the left only held by a gate and big boxes to the right. The handlebars on the wall lead to the middle of the illustration where in the doorway, coming out of the darkness is Minkowski floating towards and reaching out to the viewer.

Fear of Madness

by JasOso

Notes: I made Minkowski reach out to the viewer as a way to honor her character. In the series she is always reaching out for help and for teamwork, and I really wanted to have her reach out to the viewer as well.

The entire image is different types of blue. The border of the image is the door opening looking into the communications room, where Eiffel is seen working on a computer. The only light source coming from the computer. There is a window behind Eiffel that looks into space and next to it, is an image of a little girl.

Welcome to Wolf 359

by JasOso

A watercolor painting of Minkowski, Hilbert, Eiffel, the Plant Monster and Hera in a laboratory on the Hephaestus. The Plant Monster is in the bottom left corner. It has a green bulb with a red-lipped mouth that is open to show a couple teeth and a blue tongue. It has leaves around it, and vines that stretch throughout the drawing. On the back wall is a screen with Hilbert on it. He is bald, with pale skin and glasses. He is wearing a white shirt under a lab coat and has a slightly confused expression. In the top left corner is Eiffel. He has tan skin and dark brown hair, and is wearing a baggy orange jumpsuit. He is holding onto a vine and looking nervously behind himself at Hilbert. In the bottom right corner is Minkowski. She is a light-skinned woman with brown hair. She is wearing a similar orange jumpsuit and a red headband on her head. She has her arms held in front of her and is looking at Eiffel with an annoyed expression. In the top right corner is Hera, a blue smiling emoticon on a screen.

Warren

by Kate Zatti

The overall piece is a one page comic, done entirely in black and white. The panels are plated on top of a black, starry background. Panel 1: A far-out shot of the star Wolf 359, which is enormous and contrasts starkly against the expanse of space behind it. Loops of fire burst out from the star. The silhouette of the Hephaestus, now looking tiny, is visible in front of the star. The captions read: “Wolf 359 Mission,” “Day 1121 + 1,” “Mission Status: Failure,” and “Casualties: 6.” Panel 2: A close-up shot of the Hephaestus station, backlit strongly by the star’s light. The body of the ship is cylindrical with two rectangular panels extending from either side. The caption reads: “U.S.S. Hephaestus (unresponsive).” Overlapping the panel is a speech bubble attributed to Lovelace in the next panel. She says, “How much time, Jacobi?” Panel 3: A shot of Lovelace and Jacobi. Lovelace is a tall, thin Black woman with kinky shoulder length hair floating gently. She is wearing a light jumpsuit and grey undershirt, and has bandages on her eyebrow and chin. Jacobi is a short, fit East-Asian man with short black hair and large, thick-rimmed glasses. He has stubble on his chin, a large burn scar covering the right side of his face, and bandages on his jaw and neck. He is wearing a leather jacket and tee shirt. Both characters look exhausted, but Lovelace looks slightly hopeful. Jacobi looks to Lovelace and answers, “About a minute left, Captain.” A caption on the lower right hand corner reads “U.S.S. Urania,” signifying Jacobi and Lovelace’s location. Panel 4: A shot of the interior of the Urania’s observation deck. Jacobi and Lovelace float behind a large, curved window facing the star, which is visible along with the tiny silhouette of the Hephaestus. The right wall of the observation deck is lined with pipes, screens, and buttons. The floor of the deck is padded, and has a painted-on arrow pointing towards the window. Hanging over the left side of the room is a large, corrugated pipe which hangs down from the ceiling. Also on the left side is a shorter wall, which reads “U.S.S. URANIA” on the outside. The room is dark except for the light emitted by the star. Panel 5: A very close-up shot of Lovelace’s eyes. A strand of hair falls in front of her right eye. Reflected in both of her irises is the silhouette of the Hephaestus against the star. Her eyelids are half-lidded. Beneath this panel in the negative space in white letters is written “You ready?” which can be assumed is said by Jacobi.

The sixth panel shows Jacobi’s legs from behind.
