The Ark of Atuman is a small chapterhouse in Reikos, in the hills of Chalcis Mount bordering the Upper Tarn Valley (a region under attack by the Vallorn). It was abandoned during the previous Druj invasion of Reikos. It has been recently restored and now forms part of the supply route people use to get from Reikos into Therunin and back.
Quinn Seedsower of Navarr invites you to come along to the Ark for a relaxing* weekend break! See the sights in the hilltop, swim in the local lake, take in the chapel's choral ambience. Acquire a fresh appreciation for the fact that rampaging trees overwhelming the place would be bad, actually, and the movers and shakers of the Empire should maybe do something about that.
Welcome to Reikos!
* a large number of Imperial Citizens are dying in a bloody war in the adjacent region.
This is a social event. Things that occur at this event are a real part of the Empire world. For more details please see the rules on Sanctioned events .
All standard rules for social events apply: there will be no organised threat or peril, no plot NPCs or items, and no information provided by the organisers about the Empire world other than what is publicly available on the wiki. Expect in-character discussions to focus around the ongoing situation in Therunin, and the practicalities of Highguard chapterhouse life.
This event is combat unlikely or contained while at Pardshaw Quaker Centre and the crag, but strictly non-combat on all other external trips. (No fighting in the lake!)
The event organisers can process rituals and ceremonies on the ref system. We ask that if you're planning to create any effects requiring text on a card, that you bring a card with the text on.
This event is child-friendly. Parents or guardians can bring their kids of any age, and 16-17 year olds can attend alone if they provide emergency contact details. For more details see our safeguarding policy.
Quite frankly, a bunch of us use this event to go on holiday to the Lake District in-character, and you won't go too wrong if that's what you're looking for!
We will be walking to and from the lake in-character (90 mins each way), but lifts in the cart are available one or both ways.
We will have ribbons to represent lineage and tattoos while swimming.
Please follow any wild swimming safety instructions you are given by our first aider.
There may also be an out-of-character trip to a different lake on the Sunday (not an official part of the event), for those keen for more swimming.
Expect a variety of Highguard and Navarr musical traditions, including a bell choir and Songs and Stories round the woodburner.
There will be an in-character picnic on the top of the local crag Saturday lunchtime, and chances to climb the crag to see the sunsets.
Expect other opportunities to get out into nature through walks to the lake or on trails around the Ark.
Pardshaw Quaker Centre is an old Quaker Meeting House and school near Loweswater lake that is run as a simple and affordable community hostel. A variety of LARP events are run there over the year.
Sleeping at Pardshaw Quaker Centre is mostly on fairly basic floor beds. You'll need to bring a sleeping bag but pillows are provided. For more details see https://pardshawquakercentre.org.uk/staying-at-pardshaw/ .
Any excess made from running this event will be donated to the Pardshaw Quaker Centre Sanctuary Fund, which allows groups facing disadvantage and discrimination (particularly refugee groups and trans+ groups) to get free hire of the Centre for community holidays. We've already supported one university LARP group via their trans+ criterion, and we'll probably be supporting more!
