Dr. P K Hota received his BSc Chemistry (Honours), MSc Organic Chemistry and MPhil Organic Chemistry from Sambalpur University Odisha. He received two gold medals from Sambalpur University for securing rank 1 position in his undergraduate and postgraduate studies. In his MPhil, Dr Hota did his research on the fluorescence probe properties of various synthetic cyanine dyes. He qualified NET-JRF (CSIR-UGC) and joined the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay for his PhD, where he worked on the synthesis, photochemistry and photobiology of retinoids and retinal bound photoreceptor, bacteriorhodopsin. He then moved to Case Western Reserve University, USA (2006-2011) for his 1st postdoctoral research, where he worked on the receptor protein-protein interactions. He then joined McMaster University, Canada (2012-2013) for his 2nd postdoctoral research, where he studied the interaction of Diacylglycerol kinases and membrane lipid molecules. He is the recipient of American Heart Association research award in 2008-2010. In 2013, he joined H. N. B. Garhwal University as an Assistant Professor (2013-2025) and subsequently, University of Delhi in 2025 as an Associate Professor.
Dr Hota’s research is focused on
(1) Synthesis of biologically active molecules and to understand receptor protein-drugs interaction
(2) Synthesis and photochemistry of retinoids, stilbenoids and their heterocyclic based analogues
(3) Synthesis of fluorescent donor-acceptor conjugated organic molecules for various biological and electronics applications
