The Ark of Atuman is a small chapterhouse in Reikos, in the hills of Chalcis Mount bordering the Upper Tarn Valley (a region under attack by the Vallorn). It was abandoned during the previous Druj invasion of Reikos. It has been recently restored and now forms part of the supply route Navarri use to get from Reikos into Therunin and back.
Quinn Seedsower of Navarr invites you to come along to the Ark for a relaxing* weekend break! See the sights in the hilltop, swim in the local lake, take in the chapel's choral ambience. Acquire a fresh appreciation for the fact that rampaging trees overwhelming the place would be bad, actually, and the movers and shakers of the Empire should maybe do something about that.
Welcome back to Reikos!
* a large number of Imperial Citizens are dying in a bloody war in the adjacent region.
This will be a social event. All standard rules for social events apply: there will be no threat or peril, no plot NPCs, and no information about the Empire world other than what is publicly available on the wiki.
The Ark is a haven of tranquility on the edge of a warzone.
Now we rest and recuperate together. Tomorrow we will bleed together. And when the sun rises, we will walk the trods in Therunin together once more.
Inextricable. Indefatigable. Inevitable.

You might be local and have helped out with restoring the place last season. You might be helping with the supply lines for the defense of Therunin against the Vallorn. You might be a Navarri (or anyone else) coming into or out of Therunin in need of a break. You might just be dropping by for the atmosphere.
Expect a relaxing community weekend punctuated by occasional serious discussions about the escalating situation in Therunin.
There will be a Saturday lunchtime picnic up on the summit of the crag overlooking the site with very nice views. This is suitable for anyone who can walk for 5 minutes uphill.
There will be an in-character walk and swimming trip to the local lake (Loweswater) on the Saturday afternoon. The lake is slightly over an hour's walk away across a beautiful mountain path. IC swimming costumes are wonderful but not required. Please do not wear makeup while swimming: we will have ribbons available to indicate your lineage or species [Seven Hours rules]. Lifts to and from the lake are available for people who would rather not walk.
There will be some in-character choir practice (including bells) in the Ark's chapterhouse chapel on the Saturday morning and a concert for the other attendees Saturday evening. All levels of singing ability welcome, or bring your own songs or poetry to perform!
The prices below are all inclusive of food for the weekend. Concession/non-concession ticket costs are as follows:
£50/£25 for an indoor bed.
£40/£20 to camp.
£20/£10 for sleeping offsite (e.g. day ticket, or staying at the nearby Travelodge or Premier Inn). Note: the beds at Pardshaw are quite basic, so anyone who needs a high-quality bed for access reasons should consider sleeping offsite.
Concessions tickets are available for anyone eligible for an Empire concession, or anyone who could not otherwise afford full price. They give you 50% off. If you can't afford the concession price, let us know.
Crewing is free. You'll be asked to help out with logistics tasks like washing up, and help run the event schedule. You'll be playing your Empire character - if you don't have one we'll help you make one on the system.
This event is run OC by Kes Ward and IC by Quinn Seedsower (Kes's Empire character), who are both involved in organising the The Other Roads player events.
Time-in is at 6pm-ish on Friday and 10am-ish on Saturday. Timeout-ish is at about 11pm each night, but you are free to roleplay later into the night in a group as long as you don't mind people walking round in OC pyjamas.
Indoor beds are mostly stackable low beds. There are some raised beds which we'll allocate to anyone who can't use a low bed. There are some pillows but please bring your own sleeping bag.
Booking is first come first served. In the event of booking out we will operate a short waitlist.
This is a sanctioned event. The organisers can process rituals and ceremonies in line with the Empire rules. We ask that if you are planning to create any effects requiring text on a card, that you bring your own card with the text on.
This event is combat unlikely or contained, the same risk as in Anvil. There will be no external threat or peril, but LARP combat is OC allowed at the site. IC opinions may vary.
We will have an out-of-character quiet room and bag room. There are no lockable storage places at Pardshaw: valuables are left at own risk.
The event menu will be vegetarian and nut-free. It is approximately as follows:
Friday night: pasta bolognese
Saturday lunch: three-bean chilli in wraps
Saturday night: chickpea curry with rice
Sunday lunch: things on jacket potatoes
Breakfasts: toast, porridge and potato waffles
Drinks and snacks available at all times
Vegan options, gluten-free options, and "just give me cheese toasties" options are available for those that require them.
Pardshaw has 5 overnight parking spaces plus a grassy verge for day visitor use. We will be encouraging car sharing and public transport use and running a shuttle to bus stops / car parks in Cockermouth 5 mins drive away. If you're staying overnight and not car sharing, you may be asked to park elsewhere.
Public transport: The nearest mainline train station is Penrith. The X4/X5 bus to Cockermouth leaves from just outside Penrith station. We will organise pick ups from bus stops in Cockermouth for the final 5 minutes to site.
Pardshaw has 1 shower, which we expect to get busy after the return from the wild swimming trip. Plan accordingly.
No alcohol is allowed on site. There will maybe be a froth trip to a nearby pub on the Sunday.
Children and vulnerable adults are allowed to book and may be present at this event. For more details, consult our rendition of the Profound Decisions safeguarding policy.
Cost transparency: This is a not for profit low-cost community arts event. Surplus from this event, should it exist, will be donated to Pardshaw Quaker Centre in order to encourage them to take more bookings from LARPers.
Risk assessment: risks at this event elevated significantly beyond background level include:
The site contains woodburners and operating these has risks of burns and splinters.
Swimming wild in a lake has risks of drowning and waterborne illness.
Spending time outside in summer in rural areas has risks of ticks, sunburn, and heatstroke.
Attending an indoor LARP event has risks of catching respiratory illnesses like Covid-19.
This event is insured under LARP Alliance. We have notified all bookers of the above risks on the booking form.
Access:
there are a series of shallow steps into the main site at Pardshaw (pictured below). This event is suitable for people who can handle these steps, which may include walking stick or rollator users. It is not suitable for wheelchair users.
Pardshaw has two toilets (both flushing self-contained cubicles with washbasins), so this event may be inaccessible to disabled people who cannot wait for a toilet.
Pardshaw's beds are quite basic, so anyone who needs a high-quality bed for access reasons should consider sleeping offsite.
