About Me (Riley Welch):
From Torrington, CT, I consider myself an abstract artist who specializes in exaggerated forms of patterns, colors, and shapes. As seen in the progression of my artwork over the years, my artistic ability ranges from hyper realistic to more playful. Finding my artistic voice has been a wild journey, but overall, I learned to let go of all the perfectionism and just express from the heart.
My art education solely came from Southington High School, located in Southington, CT. In all four years as a high school student, I took multiple different art classes to experiment with which form of art fits me best. I took classes on sculpting, photography/ advanced photography, and advanced drawing /painting. I started prioritizing painting at age 17, when I experimented with watercolors.

Why I Create:
Art is a universal language that anyone can speak. You don't have to be good, or know how to draw the Mona Lisa. Art has always been an outlet for me that I find I can never ignore. Life gets busy; work, school, meetings, other hobbies, etc. But overall I find that I eventually find myself back in front of the canvas, or buried in a sketch book, or picturing ordinary life in my mind as something more extraordinary that I find I cannot keep myself from ignoring. I only know that I'm a true artist when I decide to abandon it. Even when one faucet is blocked, water will eventually seep out of other areas whether you like it or not. Poetry, visions, speech, perspective. The creativity doesn't fade away with your decision to leave it alone. And since I'm good with combining hand skills with my brain, why not keep painting and help move other peoples' perspectives with my work? This is how I found out expressing is one of my purposes in life; because sometimes you're born to do something just like walking and breathing. Not only do I also create instinctually, but I also like learning more about myself so I can grow as a person. Seeing a progression in my soul over the course of many years makes for a solid evaluation that was almost not meant to be seen by the naked eye. What's brilliant is that the naked eye still sees it.
