Weiwei & José

Weiwei & José is a classical guitar and piano duo based in New York City, featuring pianist Dr. Weiwei Zhai and guitarist Dr. José Maldonado. Their performances blend classical and historical repertoire with contemporary works and original arrangements that reflect their Puerto Rican and Chinese cultural backgrounds. The duo’s journey began at Bloomingdale School of Music, where they both serve as faculty. Since their formation in 2023, Weiwei & José have captivated audiences with their artistry and diverse repertoire. They have been invited to perform at the Brooklyn Classical Guitar Society, John Jay College (CUNY), Lindeblad School of Music, and the Bloomingdale Guitar Festival, among others. Both Dr. Zhai and Dr. Maldonado are acclaimed solo performers and educators with active careers in NYC and beyond.
