A CDE is a Career Development Event in which student build on what is learned in their agricultural classes, these events encourage members to put their knowledge into practice. The events are designed to help members prepare for a career in agriculture by testing and challenging the students technical, leadership, interpersonal, and teamwork skills as well as their knowledge of the subject matter. 

Many CDEs are qualifying events for the national CDE competition and/or offer scholarship opportunities
