Weiping Ding (M’16-SM’19) received the Ph.D. degree in Computer Science, Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics (NUAA), Nanjing, China, in 2013. He was a Visiting Scholar at University of Lethbridge(UL), Alberta, Canada, in 2011. He was a Post-Doctoral Fellow / Research Fellow / Visiting Scholar at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of Alberta (UA), Alberta, Canada in 2014, at the Brain Research Center, National Chiao Tung University (NCTU), Hsinchu, Taiwan from 2014 to 2015, in Hong Kong Polytechnic University (HKPU), Hong Kong in 2015, at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineer, National University of Singapore (NUS), Singapore in 2016, and at Computational Intelligence and Brain Computer Interface (CIBCI) Center, CAI, University of Technology Sydney (UTS), Australia from 2017 to 2018.  Now, Dr. Ding is the Chair of IEEE CIS Task Force on Granular Data Mining for Big Data. He is a member of Senior IEEE, IEEE-CIS, ACM, CCAI and Senior CCF. He is a member of Technical Committee on Soft Computing of IEEE SMCS, on Evolving Intelligent Systems of IEEE SMCS, on Granular Computing of IEEE SMCS, and on Data Mining and Big Data Analytics of IEEE CIS. 

Dr. Ding is currently a Full Professor with the School of Information Science and Technology, Nantong University, Nantong, Chinaand also the supervisor of Master and  Ph.D postgraduate by the Faculty of Data Science at City University of Macau. His research interests include deep neural networks, granular data mining, uncertainty modeling in intelligent transportation systems, rough sets theory, fuzzy sets theory, big data optimization and analysis for Various real application scenarios, and medical images analysis

Dr. Ding has published more than 250 research peer-reviewed journal and conference papers in this field, including over 100 IEEE Transactions papers, such as IEEE Transactions on Fuzzy Systems, IEEE Transactions on Neural Network and Learning System, IEEE Transactions on Evolutionary Computation, IEEE Transactions on Cybernetics, IEEE Transactions on Industrial Informatics, IEEE Transactions on Systems, Man, and Cybernetics: Systems, IEEE Transactions on Emerging Topics in Computational Intelligence, IEEE Transactions on Intelligent Transportation Systems, IEEE Transactions on Biomedical Engineering, IEEE Transactions on Cognitive and Developmental Systems, etc, and he He has co-authored two books. He has holds 28 approved invention patents, including two U.S. patents and one Australian patent. His FIFTEEN  authored or co-authored papers have been selected as ESI Highly Cited Papers (i.e. listed in Top 1% globally in the corresponding discipline).

Dr. Ding was an Excellent-Young Teacher (Qing Lan Project) of Jiangsu Province in 2014, a High-Level Talent (Six Talent Peak) of Jiangsu Province in 2016, and a Middle-aged and Young Academic Leaders (Qing Lan Project) of Jiangsu Province in 2019. He was awarded the Best Paper of ICDMA’15. Dr. Ding was a recipient of the Medical Science and Technology Award (Second Prize) of Jiangsu Province, China, in 2017, and the Education Teaching and Research Achievement Award (First Prize in 2021, Third Prize in 2018) of Jiangsu Province, China. He was the Outstanding Associate Editor of 2018 for IEEE Access Journal. Dr. Ding was awarded two Chinese Government Scholarships for Overseas Studies in 2011 and 2016.  He ranked within the top 2% Ranking of Scientists in the World by Stanford University (2020-2023).

Dr. Ding is vigorously involved in editorial activities. He serves/served on the Editorial Advisory Board of Knowledge-Based Systems (Elsevier) and Editorial Board of Information Fusion (Elsevier), Engineering Applications of Artificial Intelligence (Elsevier), and Applied Soft Computing (Elsevier). He serves/served as an Associate Editor of IEEE Transactions on Neural Networks and Learning Systems, IEEE Transactions on Fuzzy Systems, IEEE Transactions on Intelligent Transportation Systems,IEEE Transactions on  Emerging Topics in Computational Intelligence,IEEE Transactions on Artificial Intelligence, IEEE Transactions on Intelligent Vehicles, Information Sciences (Elsevier), IEEE/CAA Journal of Automatica Sinica, Neurocomputing (Elsevier), Swarm and Evolutionary Computation (Elsevier), IEEE Access and Journal of Intelligent & Fuzzy Systems, and Co-Editor-in-Chief of Journal of Artificial Intelligence and System. He is the Leading Guest Editor of Special Issues in several prestigious journals, including IEEE Transactions on Evolutionary Computation, IEEE Transactions on Fuzzy Systems, IEEE Transactions on Emerging Topics in Computational Intelligence, Information Fusion, Information Sciences, Applied Soft Computing and so on. He has delivered more than 50 keynote speeches at international conferences and has served as the Program Chair, Workshop Chair, or Program Committee Member of several international conferences and symposiums in the area of data mining, fuzzy decision-making, and knowledge engineering.  Now he is the Co-Editor-in-Chief of both Journal of Artificial Intelligence and Systems and Journal of Artificial Intelligence Advances.
