U.S. Wind Turbine Visibility Dataset

Discover the expansive visibility landscape of wind facilities across the U.S.

The dataset provides a comprehensive viewshed analysis of over 60,000 land-based and offshore wind turbines within the U.S. The viewshed analysis identifies the visibility areas from which an average-height individual can sight these facilities under prevailing weather conditions, taking into consideration turbine specifications, local topography, and the Earth's curvature.

The figure embedded offers a simplified overview of the dataset. The data is considerably condensed into 5km x 5km cell units for ease of representation, shrinking the original size from 52 gigabytes to under 1 gigabyte.
