Teaching the musical alphabet is one of the first tasks with a beginner. The student should be able to recite the musical alphabet forward and backwards. It is also important to be able to count the alphabet in skips, e.g (A-C-E) (C-E-G) etc. The reason for doing this is to be able to spell chords.
