A member of the Belgian Tervuren Club of Southern California, Kimberly Buchanan and her Belgian Tervuren Oscar were one of the first teams to title in the then brand new sport, earning NW1 and NW2 titles.

She and her Terv Emmy were the very first team to have earned the challenging NW3 title as well as the first to have earned the NW3 Elite title in 2011. Kim’s dogs are currently trialing towards their K9NW ELT-CH, NW3-Elite and two are now working towards their NW2 titles!

A founding member of NACSW™ and one of the original 7 Certified Nose Work Instructors, NACSW trial judge and Certifying Official, Kimberly has been training since 2007, competing in K9 Nose Work® since its inception and teaching since 2009.

She teaches K9 Nose Work® classes, offers online classes for scentwork enthusiasts and continuing education for other instructors. Through her company, Joyride K9 Dog Training, she hosts other scentwork activities in Southern California. She is enthusiastically helping to bring the sport of nosework to the US and internationally as Senior Faculty with the National Association of Canine Scent Work, LLC®.

Nosework Organizations

AKC: The organization's version of the sport is called Scent Work. Find the details here. Read "Why Not Give AKC Scent Work a Try?"

National Association of Canine Nose Work: This is the oldest and the founding organization for competitive sport detection.
- K9 Nose Work: The education site for the NACSW. You can find NACSW method instructors here.
- NACSW K9 Nose Work Rule Book
- North American Sport Dog Association: Formed in 2016, this organization hosts a variety of scent games including the new Lost Article Recovery. Clubs offering trials are growing in number with most in California, Nevada and Western Canada.
North American Shed Hunting Dog Association: Organization promotes the training and trialing of dogs in sourcing and locating antlers shed by deer, moose and the like. Most clubs are located in the South and Midwest.
