This land and its people have been subjected to a system and a colonial philosophy that allowed every treaty signed between its people and the Canadian government to be violated. Weaving Threads acknowledges that it takes place within this system, which is still actively excluding Indigenous People from the decision-making processes regarding the governance of their land.
There have been numerous movements, organizations and initiatives powered by members of the Indigenous communities who refuse to sit passively under the imposed violence and displacement, attempting to re-establish indigenous sovereignty and to protect this land from further colonial capitalistic damage. We urge you to educate yourself on these efforts, historical or on-going, and to reflect on your personal relationship with the land in the context of this struggle.
Weaving Threads commits to build a space that is safe and affirmative to members of the Indigenous and QTBIPOC community. Our goal is to provide visibility by celebrating the joys of being a QTBIPOC and our healing journeys within this community.
